Department Description

HPU Kahn Law Library provides the HPU Kahn Law School and HPU community with resources for teaching and research. The student assistant will gain valuable experience about customer service and will develop valuable research skills.

Job Description

The principal role of the Circulation Desk Assistant is to provide excellent customer service to HPU Kahn Law Library patrons by answering basic directional, research, computer, or technical-related questions, checking materials in and out for patrons, and performing other duties associated with the running of a library. The law library is a professional environment, which demands business casual attire while on duty. A courteous demeanor is always required.

Job Location / Hours Required

The candidate will perform most of the job duties in HPU Kahn Law Library, located in Panther Commons. Occasionally, the candidate may be required to deliver or retrieve library materials from other parts of campus. Work hours may vary based on the job requirements; however, the total number of hours a student employee may work per week is 20 hours. This position requires a commitment of up to 10 hours per week.

QUALIFICATIONS AND CREDENTIALS

Education And Experience

Grade point average of 3.0 or above is preferred. A minimum of one year of college education is preferred. Work Study status is preferred. Prior customer service experience is also preferred.

ABILITIES AND COMPETENCIES ESSENTIAL TO THE FUNCTION OF THE JOB

• Ability to communicate effectively is required.
• Strong organizational skills are required.
• Willingness to visit other campus locations to deliver or retrieve library materials is required.
• Ability to sit for an extended period is required.
• Ability to handle library materials, reach overhead, kneel or stoop to retrieve or shelve library materials is required.
• Ability to lift 40 pounds of library material and push book carts weighing up to 200 pounds is required.
