Job Summary
The Medical Laboratory Scientist is responsible for analyzing patient specimens using approved testing procedures and ensuring all lab protocols are followed in compliance with CLIA, HIPAA, and OSHA regulations. The role demands strict adherence to quality control, documentation standards, and proactive identification of potential test discrepancies or performance issues.
Key Responsibilities
Follow laboratory protocols for specimen handling, processing, and recordkeeping
Analyze specimens per approved SOPs and release accurate test results
Maintain and review QC documentation, calibrations, and instrument logs
Ensure compliance with CLIA, HIPAA, OSHA, and lab safety standards
Identify and resolve performance issues or escalate to supervisors
Participate in STATS and critical result reporting as required
Maintain departmental appearance, safety knowledge, and reagent tracking
Attend monthly department and safety training sessions
Assist during regulatory inspections and audits
Perform other duties as directed by supervisor
Required Experience
Minimum 1 year of clinical lab experience in high-complexity testing (preferred)
1 year of experience required for those with BS / BA in Chemistry or Biology
Nice-to-Have Experience
Experience with multi-system lab environments
QA / QC oversight in testing labs
