About This Job

To safeguard the life and health of the citizens of Louisiana by assuring persons practicing as Registered Nurses and Advanced Practice Registered Nurses are competent and safe.

This highly responsible advanced level position ensures that student credentials, Registered Nurse (RN) and Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) licenses are timely issued to all eligible applicants who have completed the necessary requirements for licensure. This position must exercise sound judgment, creativity, and resourcefulness in all areas of responsibility and must be proficient in the use of computers. Position requires the ability to interpret and apply policies and procedures and to communicate the same verbally and in writing in a professional manner.

Minimum Qualifications

Three years of experience in the issuance, maintenance, or reinstatement of licenses; OR Six years of full-time work experience in any field; OR A bachelor's degree.

EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION : Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience towards the six years of full-time work experience in any field. The maximum substitution allowed is 120 semester hours which substitutes for a maximum of four years of experience in any field.

Job Duties And Other Information

Job Duties :

• Examines and analyzes data submitted by and / or on behalf of each applicant for RN and APRN licensure for accuracy, authenticity, and completeness of information to document the determination of eligibility and qualification for licensure and prepares the file.
• Receives and reviews professional credentials and advises and makes recommendations to superiors relative to compliance with requirements for RN and APRN licensure, re-licensure, renewal of license, granting, changing, or continuation of Prescriptive Authority (PA).
• Receives, analyzes, and verifies the authenticity of diplomas, certifications, and licenses submitted by applicants, institutions, and / or other licensing authorities. Receives, safeguards, records, analyzes, and prepares reports of security clearance data, which includes criminal history record information provided by federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies for the applicant.
• Research records, makes requests and responds to requests for information to / from entities that include professional organizations, hospital administrators, health care entities, providers, federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies, other federal, state and local officials, general public, and other licensing and / or certification entities relative to applicants, statutes, rules and regulations and other public information.
