The Park Development Superintendent is a hands-on supervisor who provides professional and technical direction, leadership, and industry expertise. The focus is on facility and construction activities to design, procure, and develop parks, open spaces, trails, recreation facilities, and related infrastructure. The ideal candidate is passionate about providing outdoor recreation experiences for the public and protecting natural resources for future generations.
Maricopa County parks offer visitors the best of the Sonoran Desert. At approximately 120,042 acres of parkland and 872 miles of trails, Maricopa County is home to one of the largest regional park systems in the nation. Currently, there are twelve parks in Maricopa County's regional park system. Each is unique and offers its visitors a wide variety of recreational opportunities.
The Maricopa County Parks and Recreation Department oversees the Maricopa Trail, a 315-mile trail system encircling the valley and linking all regional parks. We require :
- Five years of experience in a Parks and Recreation agency and / or field working with related development projects
- Two years of supervisory experience
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Project Management, Engineering, Landscape Architecture, Architecture, Parks and Recreation, or a related field

Managing, supervising, and directing staff, consultants, architects, landscape architects, engineers, land surveyors, contractors, project managers, and volunteers involved in the renovation and construction of regional parks, trail systems, and other recreation facilitiesDeveloping park development plans, technical reports from data collection, field investigation, detailed analysis, and providing recommendations based on findingsProviding expertise on specialized matters concerning project design, engineering, and construction managementTracking and preparing project reports, coordinating audits, and reviewing of work performedImplementing projects from park master plans, coordinating development, landscape, and construction plans, including project scoping, criteria, specifications, and standardsCoordinating and overseeing the Department's 10-year capital improvement development plan, recommending project budgets, and other maintenance / capital projectsOverseeing fleet of equipment and vehicles, authorizing repairs, recommending replacement schedule, analyzing usage, and preparing utilization and cost reportsParticipating in the selection of consultants and contractors and overseeing construction projectsOther job duties as assignedWorking conditions include :
