JOB SUMMARY

Under the direction of the Maintenance Manager, the Fleet Supervisor position supervises the daily activities of a

vehicle maintenance facility. Responsible for the daily supervision of vehicle maintenance and related activities and is

responsible for timely and reliable maintenance, preventive maintenance inspections, service and repair of transit buses,

non-revenue vehicles, and equipment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Supervises and evaluates mechanics and technicians, utility service workers, and inventory control personnel working

varied shifts. Plans, schedules, and supervises the maintenance and safe repair of the MST fleet at three divisions.

Ensures continued maintenance of MST's entire fleet of buses and non-revenue support vehicles. Assists and guides

mechanics and technicians on difficult maintenance problems. Prepares recurring end-of-shift reports including daily

vehicle status, revenue vehicle inspection reports, work orders, and other maintenance documents. Transports parts,

materials, and equipment between operating divisions. Monitors the quality of work through spot checks and supervises

workers fueling and cleaning the fleet. Interfaces with other supervisors and Communication Center staff as required.

Provides information and makes recommendations to the Fleet Superintendent and the Maintenance Manager.

Performs related duties as required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL & ABILITY

Candidate should possess a strong knowledge of current management techniques and principles, public transit fleet

operations, equipment, and maintenance practices. Knowledge of federal, state, and local transportation laws and

regulations is essential along with familiarity in maintenance records, repair procedures, and parts inventory control

management. Candidates should demonstrate proficiency in interpersonal communication, including the ability to

communicate effectively and tactfully in situations. Has report preparation skills, along with knowledge in personnel

evaluations. Strong research techniques and knowledge in hands-on mechanical diagnostic and repair skills for heavy-

duty vehicles and equipment are also necessary. The candidate must have knowledge of and the ability to interpret and

apply collective bargaining agreements (CBAs), and the ability to work collaboratively with labor unions. Additional

competencies include the ability to plan, organize, and evaluate transit maintenance operations; write clear and concise

reports and memos; and work flexible schedules, including nights, weekends, and holidays, as needed. Proficiency in

oral and written communication, word processing and spreadsheet software, and fleet management systems. The

candidate should also be capable of establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships. Familiarity with

OSHA regulations and safety standards related to vehicle maintenance, as well as knowledge of the California Highway

Patrol's Basic Inspection of Terminal (BIT) requirements. Experience with software-based preventive maintenance

tracking programs.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS

Education and experience equivalent to graduation from an accredited junior / community college and / or heavy-duty

equipment technical training and five years of vehicle maintenance experience. At least one year of supervisory

experience or experience equivalent to two years as a mechanic lead. Two years of hands-on experience working in a

garage.

required physical examination; obtain a Class B instruction permit with air-brakes certification and passenger

endorsement or posses a valid Class B license, participate in random drug and alcohol testing as mandated by the

Department of Transportation.
