Duties

During their careers, special agents carry out assignments in investigations and protection, with potential postings throughout the U.S. and abroad. Responsibilities include :

  • Providing protection for various protectees.
  • Conducting criminal investigations related to financial obligations of the United States.
  • Planning and implementing security designs for National Special Security Events.

Requirements

  • U.S. citizenship is required.
  • Possess a current valid driver's license.
  • Carry and use a firearm; maintaining firearm proficiency is mandatory.
  • Be at least 21 years old at application and less than 37 at the time of a conditional job offer, unless prior federal law enforcement service applies.
  • Obtain and retain a Top Secret Clearance.
  • Uncorrected visual acuity of no worse than 20 / 100 binocular, corrected to 20 / 20 or better in each eye.
  • Hearing loss must not exceed 25 decibels in either ear in specified ranges.
  • Submit to drug testing before appointment and random testing thereafter.
  • Complete 13 weeks of training at FLETC in Glynco, GA, and 18 weeks at the James J. Rowley Training Center in Laurel, MD.
  • Willingness to accept assignments anywhere within the U.S. and overseas.
  • Register with the Selective Service System or be exempt (if male and born after December 31, 1959).
