VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT Deputy Fire Chief Salary Range :
- $ 111,000 - $ 140,000 (D.O.E) Join our esteemed Fire Department as the Deputy Fire Chief.
- This pivotal role involves supervisory and administrative responsibilities, including organizing and directing emergency response operations, managing daily operations, and developing departmental policies and procedures.
Key Responsibilities :
Supervise and oversee the daily operations and administration of the Fire Department.Provide leadership and direction for the Operations Division, including oversight of field Battalion Chiefs and EMS Supervisors.Manage the Administrative Services section, supervising staff Battalion Chiefs, Fire Marshals, and logistics personnel.Develop and oversee the departmental budget for the fiscal year.Review and approve purchase orders, excluding those requiring City Hall sign-off.Handle human resources functions, from the hiring process to final selection of candidates.Coordinate EMS and Fire Protection for special city events, including staffing and serving as Incident Commander when necessary.Collaborate with the Deputy Emergency Manager on Incident Action Plans.Participate in city management for large projects affecting citywide services.Respond to significant fires / incidents, providing command and safety coordination.Conduct performance evaluations for subordinates.Attend educational events to stay updated on emergency response trends.Engage with community groups about the Department's role in emergency services.Develop plans for new fire stations and infrastructure improvements.Assume command in the absence of the Fire Chief.Perform additional related duties as assigned.Minimum Requirements :
Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.) degree in Fire Science or a related field. 15 years of experience in a related field, with 5 years at the Battalion Chief level or higher preferred.Valid state driver’s license.Equivalent education and / or experience considered.Special Requirements :
Obtain VA Fire Officer III Certification or equivalent within 12 months of appointment.Obtain VA Fire Instructor III Certification or equivalent within 24 months of appointment.Complete ICS-300 and ICS-400 training.Acquire knowledge of Fire Inspections, Investigations, and code interpretation.Ability to achieve Certified Emergency Manager level.Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :
Understanding of City policies, procedures, and organizational structure.Proficiency in supervisory firefighting work and personnel management.Familiarity with laws, ordinances, and regulations related to the role.Ability to maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders.Skills in data analysis, decision-making, and equipment operation.Competence in applying rational system principles and exercising independent judgment.
