About JFamily at The J Detroit

JFamily at The J Detroit creates meaningful, inclusive programming for Jewish families at every stage of life. Through holiday celebrations, social gatherings, educational workshops, and more, JFamily helps families build lasting connections to Jewish life, culture, and community.

Position Overview

The Program Coordinator for JFamily plays a key role in designing and delivering engaging family programs that reflect the vibrancy of Jewish life in Metro Detroit. This individual will bring creativity, organization, and warmth to the planning, execution, and evaluation of JFamily initiatives.

The ideal candidate is passionate about community engagement, detail-oriented in event logistics, and energized by working collaboratively with families, volunteers, and community partners.

Key Responsibilities

  • Program Development & Delivery

Plan and implement a variety of family-focused programs, including holiday celebrations, educational events, and cultural experiences like our annual Mini Maccabi and Matzah Factory programs.

  • Ensure all programs align with JFamily’s mission and provide meaningful engagement opportunities for a wide variety of families.
  • Logistics & Operations

    • Manage all logistical aspects of programming, such as venue coordination, catering, registration, staffing, supplies, and on-site execution

  • Community Engagement

    • Build relationships with families and participants, serving as a warm and welcoming point of contact before, during, and after events

  • Encourage ongoing participation and community connection
  • Collaboration & Partnerships

    • Work closely with fellow JFamily team members, volunteers, and local organizations to enhance program offerings and community reach

  • Budget & Reporting

    • Create and manage program budgets

  • Track attendance and outcomes; contribute to program evaluation and reporting efforts

    • Qualifications

  • Experience in program coordination, event planning, or community engagement (family-focused or Jewish community experience a plus)
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication abilities
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
  • Passion for Jewish culture, traditions, and community life
  • Availability to work 10-12 evenings or weekends for events over the year

  • Part-time position with hybrid work structure and two required days in office.
  • Availability to staff up to 10 Sunday or evening programs per year
