Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced Med / Surg RN with an active IL license and strong IV and PICC line skills for a day shift position.

Responsibilities

  • Work in the Med / Surg unit of an acute care, Level I trauma, Magnet hospital
  • Day shifts available with 3x12 or 4x12 hour schedules, 06 : 45-19 : 15
  • Required to work every other weekend with potential to make up weekends if time off is requested
  • Patient ratios may be up to 1 : 7, though this is not the norm
  • PICC line management and IV starts are expected duties
  • Care for trach and laryngectomy patients; prior experience not required but must be willing to learn
  • Use of Cerner EMR; experience preferred
  • Floating required within the hospital and to affiliate hospitals as needed
  • No on-call responsibilities
  • Locals are accepted with no radius restrictions
  • Team structure includes support within a large Magnet-recognized, Level I trauma hospital
  • Scrub attire may be any solid color
  • Parking permit provided at no cost during orientation
  • First-time travelers accepted for this assignment
  • RTO must be approved by the manager; only one winter holiday off can be requested
  • Must work at least 2 out of 3 major holidays during the contract
  • Former permanent or PRN Memorial employees must have a 12-month break before returning as a traveler
  • Background review required prior to offer
  • Computer-based modules must be completed virtually on the first day of assignment

    • Requirements

  • Active Illinois RN license required at the time of application
  • Minimum 2 years recent Med / Surg nursing experience required
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required from AHA or Red Cross
  • Proficiency in PICC line management and IV starts required
  • Willingness to care for trach and laryngectomy patients required
  • Cerner EMR experience preferred
