Job Description
The MRI Technologist will provide quality MRI studies as ordered by physicians and will perform diagnostic testing by taking images of patients' bodies using computerized MRI scanner. The MRI Technologist works under the supervision of the MRI Technologist / service coordinator, physicians and other medical personnel.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Produce MRI studies of consistently high quality by using proper techniques in following areas :
Proper adjustment of equipment
Appropriate positioning of patientMinimizing patient discomfort while preventing motionAppropriate patient identification and processingInterprets a physician's instructionsExplains MRI procedures to patientsSelects software options and imaging parameters when adjusting an MRI machineView images from an imaging session and keep records of the resultsManeuver examination equipment, prepare patients for procedures, move disabled patients from wheelchairs onto examination tables and position them for imagingGather all information necessary for successful study i.e. additional patient historyObtain additional views in questionable cases to anticipate radiologist’s requestsReport problems with equipment and assist in resolution. (trouble shooting problems)Call patients for additional imagingAnswer phone and assist with scheduling as necessaryObserve universal precautions and other necessary safety procedures such as asking women of child bearing age about possible pregnanciesAware of MRI safety for patients, visitors, employees and self at all timesAssist with QA by gathering and reporting any necessary data and displaying all necessary charts and notices and performing QA testing as requiredMaintain all supplies and place orders as necessaryMaintain certification with American Registry of Radiologic TechnologistsMaintain certification by Maine state license bureauJOB REQUIREMENTS
The MRI Technologist will possess strong written and verbal communication skills, demonstrate sensitivity to the physical and psychological needs of patients, maintain close attention to detail, and have the capacity to follow a physician's instructions and the ability to work with a team. The MRI Technologist will also need the stamina to stay on this / her feet throughout the workday, enough physical strength to maneuver patients and the manual dexterity to manipulate table straps and operate MRI machine controlsAbility to use independent judgmentAbility to interact well with radiologistsKnowledge of Anatomy and PhysiologySuccessful completion of an accredited radiologic technologist programCertification with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) and advanced level certification (or eligible) in MRIInterMed is an equal opportunity workplace and prohibits discrimination or harassment of any kind. Sign on bonus will be paid out in two installments : 1 / 3 upon start of employment and 2 / 3 once 12 months of employment are complete. Should the employee leave the corporation prior to the completion of one year of employment, they would be obligated to pay back any bonus amount received. Current InterMed employees or candidates who are rehired or reinstated within 12 months of leaving InterMed are not eligible for the sign on bonus.
