Registered Nurse – Level II Nursery / Labor & Delivery Float

Shift : 7p–7a (36 hours / week, 3x12s)

Schedule : Every other weekend, every other holiday

Call Requirement : None

Position Overview

The Registered Nurse provides comprehensive care to neonates during high-risk deliveries and within a Level II nursery setting. The RN will also float to the postpartum unit as needed. Care is delivered according to the standards of professional nursing practice, the hospital’s policies, and all regulatory guidelines.

Responsibilities

  • Provide safe, age-appropriate, and comprehensive nursing care to neonates and their families.
  • Attend deliveries and manage newborn stabilization and care in a Level II nursery.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized care plans for patients and families.
  • Supervise and delegate responsibilities to unlicensed assistive personnel within scope of practice.
  • Collaborate with physicians, midwives, and interdisciplinary team members to coordinate patient care.
  • Provide patient and family education regarding newborn care and health promotion.
  • Document assessments, interventions, and outcomes accurately and timely.
  • Participate in continuing education, mandatory in-services, and unit-based initiatives to improve quality of care.
  • Mentor and precept new staff members as assigned.
  • Provide cross-coverage for the Mother / Baby unit and Labor & Delivery when required.
  • Qualifications

  • Experience : Previous experience in special care nursing of newborns preferred; experience attending deliveries required.
  • Licensure / Certification :
  • Active Massachusetts RN license (required)

  • BLS – Basic Life Support (required)
  • NRP – Neonatal Resuscitation Program (required)

  • Candidate will float to postpartum when needed.
