Reports To : Occupational Therapist / Director of Rehabilitation
Position Summary :
The Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) provides direct treatment to residents under the supervision of a licensed Occupational Therapist. The COTA helps residents improve their ability to perform daily activities through therapeutic techniques and interventions that support physical, cognitive, and emotional functioning.
Key Responsibilities :
Carry out treatment plans developed by the Occupational Therapist, following established goals and care strategies.
Assist residents in developing, recovering, and improving skills needed for daily living and working.
Document treatment sessions, resident progress, and responses in accordance with regulatory and facility guidelines.
Educate residents, families, and caregivers on techniques to support therapy goals and promote independence.
Collaborate with Occupational Therapist and interdisciplinary team to ensure continuity of care and timely progress updates.
Participate in care plan meetings and assist with modifications to therapy programs as needed.
Monitor residents’ condition during therapy and report changes to the Occupational Therapist or nursing staff.
Maintain cleanliness and safety of therapy equipment and work areas.
Qualifications :
Graduate of an accredited Occupational Therapy Assistant program.
Current certification by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT).
Licensed (or eligible for licensure) as a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant in the state of employment.
Prior experience in a skilled nursing or long-term care facility preferred.
Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
Must pass a background check and meet health screening requirements.
Physical Requirements :
Ability to lift, push, and pull up to 50 lbs.
Frequent standing, walking, bending, and reaching.
Ability to assist with resident transfers and positioning as necessary.
