Environmental Analyst IV - Non-Community Specialist

The State of Vermont's Drinking Water & Ground Water Protection Division is searching for a passionate and dynamic individual to step into the role of Non-Community Specialist within the Non-Community Operations Section. This position is at the forefront of ensuring clean, safe drinking water for over 165,000 people across Vermont. You'll be a key player in overseeing approximately 690 Public Transient Non-Community (TNC) and 250 Non-Transient Non-Community (NTNC) systems. These systems are the backbone of Vermont's beloved campgrounds, bustling restaurants, cozy lodging establishments, and vital schools and businesses.

As a Non-Community Specialist, you'll join an energetic team of three, working hand-in-hand with the Non-Community Operations Section Supervisor. Together, you'll provide essential regulatory oversight and technical support for all the TNC and NTNC drinking water systems.

Your role will be diverse and engaging, involving :

• Conducting routine and emergency inspections of drinking water systems
• Writing detailed reports and issuing operating permits
• Monitoring compliance and providing expert technical assistance

This position is the primary point-of-contact between the Division and our water systems, liaising with water system owners, operators, engineers, and the public, ensuring seamless communication and coordination. Environmental Factors

Duties are largely performed in an office setting; however, some field travel may be necessary for which private means of transportation must be available. Field work may involve exposure to chemicals, gases, hazardous liquid and solid waste, construction sites during all weather conditions and may involve traversing rough terrain and bodies of water. Some work outside of regular working hours, including attendance at public meetings, may be required. Strong differences of opinion may be encountered on a regular basis.

Minimum Qualifications

Master's degree or higher in a biological-life or physical science, engineering, a social science, data science, or an environmental or natural resources field.

OR

Bachelor's degree or higher in a biological-life or physical science, engineering, a social science, data science, or an environmental or natural resources field AND one (1) or more years of experience in a natural resources field.

OR

Four (4) years or more of experience in an engineering, environmental, social science, data science, or natural resources field.
