JOB SUMMARY
The Senior Strategic Advisor – Maritime Industry and Technology provides strategic and tactical guidance to the Defense Industrial Base Institute’s Director, Executive Director, and leadership team to identify, evaluate and implement scalable solutions to build our nation’s maritime industrial base. This role focuses on applying DIBI's collaborate research model of convening academia, industry, and government to identify, validate and catalyze transformative opportunities to expand the capacity of American shipbuilding. The senior advisor will work closely with a broad range of commercial and technical stakeholders to ensure that promising ideas become high-impact initiatives.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree in maritime engineering or related field is required; An advanced degree in either engineering or management is preferred.
At least 15 years of experience in the maritime industry, with an extensive understanding of the operational and technical processes and issues of naval and commercial shipbuilding.
Experience as a U.S. Navy officer, a Navy civilian official or contractor, or ideally both, is strongly preferred.
Extensive network in the maritime industry, including executives at shipbuilders and shipyards, prime contractors, key suppliers and relevant public sector and public policy stakeholders.
Ability to work collaboratively across a wide range of stakeholders, from academic research teams to government officials to industry operators to financial partners.
Demonstrated knowledge of the opportunities and challenges facing the maritime industrial base in both the U.S. and its allies.
Strong project management and organizational skills. Applicant must be a self-starter with demonstrated ability to handle complex initiatives from start to finish.
Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic, and “startup-like” environment.
International commercial and / or technical experience in the maritime industry is preferred.KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & ACCOUNTABILITIES1)
Maritime industry leadership (25%)
Collaborate with DIBI’s Senior Director of Public Outreach to build strategic partnerships and develop public-private partnership opportunities with existing companies and potential new players in the maritime and shipbuilding industries. This will include helping to develop and engage DIBI’s Industry Advisory Board, organize private events with senior industry executives, organize an annual DIB / MIB innovation conference or related public events, and engage private capital sources to finance new initiatives to increase the capacity of the maritime industrial base.2)
Technical and research leadership (25%)
Work with DIBI’s Senior Director for Research to provide technical maritime industry leadership, knowledge and insights to DIBI’s Rapid Solution Teams, which are DIBI-funded research teams designed to evaluate opportunities to increase DIB capacity and validate those opportunities for impact and ability to scale.3)
Executive education leadership (25%)
Work with DIBI’s Director and colleagues at the D’Amore-McKim School of Business at Northeastern University to develop, launch and sustain executive education programs for the maritime and shipbuilding industries. The goal is to make Northeastern University the global leader in enabling public and private sector maritime executives to gain the necessary skills and knowledge to lead the successful transformation of the maritime industrial base in the U.S. and its allies.4)
Strategic planning & leadership (25%)
Contribute to DIBI’s institutional strategic planning processes and long-term vision development. Participate in strategic planning meetings and provide expert guidance on both the maritime industry and U.S. Navy to inform organizational direction. Directly engage and consult with the Navy MIB Program on behalf of DIBI. Conduct regular consultation meetings with DIBI Director and Executive Director to advise on resource allocation and priority setting.

$189,860.00 - $282,417.50
