Job Summary

Provide custodial care and cleaning of campus buildings and facilities.

Responsibilities

Department Summary

The Building Services Department is comprised of a team of passionate individuals who take immense pride in enhancing the University's experience through our clean and inviting facilities. The selected candidate will be responsible for providing exceptional customer service, engaging with, and supporting various constituencies served by the University.

Typical Allocation of Duties :

General Custodial duties - 45%

Perform general custodial services (e.g., empty waste baskets, dump trash, and replace trash bags / receptacles; clean furniture; clean floors by sweeping, vacuuming, and mopping; strip, wax and buff floors; clean carpets and windows; change light bulbs as needed or upon request; clean restrooms; replace paper towels and tissues as necessary and maintain adequate supply of each, etc.).

Special projects - 30%

Assist with moving furniture or with special cleaning projects.

Operate equipment - 15%

Operate cleaning equipment (e.g., floor buffer, carpet cleaner, etc.).

Notification of needed repairs - 10%

Notify supervisor of maintenance and repairs needed in areas cleaned.

Supervisor Expectations :

  • Clean and sanitize restrooms / bathrooms using established practices and procedures.
  • Clean, dust and wipe furniture.
  • Sweep, mop and vacuum floors.
  • Empty / clean wastebaskets and trash containers and clean them.
  • Carry trash out to the dumpster.
  • Assist with set-up and take-down of tables and chairs for meetings, classrooms, conferences and events and cleaning after events.
  • Strip, clean, buff and apply floor sealer and finish to hard surface floors.
  • Stock custodial supplies. Empty full mop buckets in floor sinks.
  • Secure building when facilities are not in use, check for unlocked doors and windows, and report any unauthorized occupants.
  • Wash accessible interior and exterior windows and blinds.
  • Follow instructions regarding use of chemicals and supplies.
  • Assist with inventory control and security.
  • Clean building furnishings within assigned area by dusting, washing, polishing office furniture and equipment.
  • Clean interior walls by removing the adhesive tape, thumb tacks, paper pins, staples, and similar items, and washing and scrubbing (if necessary) the walls with prescribed wall cleaners to remove stains and graffiti.
  • Remove all recyclable materials from assigned areas by collecting the recyclable materials from various labeled container. Transport recyclable materials to designated outside recycling dumpsters and empty recyclable materials into dumpsters.
  • Possess proficiency with computers to be able to enter information into the timecard system and complete annual training.
  • Comprehend simple instructions or information, such as work orders and cleaning chemical labels.
  • Complete basic forms and documents.
  • Train and implement usage of hand-held, precision, and power tools (i.e., brooms, mops, screwdrivers, floor buffers, leaf blowers).
  • Correctly calculate appropriate quantity of chemicals to clean.
  • Available to work occasional nights and weekends for graduation or other events.
  • Workers may work in more than one location and be required to walk between buildings or drive their personal vehicle to get to an assigned location.

Required Qualifications

Required Experience

High school diploma / GED or four (4) years of related work experience.

Proposed Salary

$13.38 / hr
