Service Manager

The Service Manager provides prompt, efficient and friendly customer service, and ensures that customer's needs are met. Supervises and coordinates the activities of employees or performs the work of all job levels.

Reporting relations include accountability to the District Store Director, Store Manager, and Assistant Managers of HWH, Perishables, Store Operations, and eCommerce. Positions that report to you include all positions except those listed above or designated by the Store Director.

Primary duties and responsibilities include maintaining a positive attitude, generating a friendly atmosphere, providing prompt, efficient and friendly customer service, supervising and coordinating activities of employees, learning to formulate pricing philosophies, ensuring proper customer service, evaluating employee performance, training and enforcing safety procedures, compiling and understanding managerial data, ordering merchandise, training workers in store policies, ensuring compliance with established policies, determining location of ad and promotional displays, conferring with employees, explaining store services, maintaining strict adherence to department and company guidelines, and reporting to work when scheduled.

Secondary duties and responsibilities include determining the motivational needs of employees, staying current with market trends, providing continuous education for existing store employees, selling merchandise, handling cash registers, recommending cost reduction programs, reviewing personnel records, recommending additions, deletions, and shelf allocation of merchandise, assisting in other areas of store, and performing other job related duties and special projects.

Knowledge, skills, abilities and worker characteristics include the ability to solve practical problems, do arithmetic calculations, interview to obtain basic information, guide people to provide basic direction, follow technical manuals, and have increased contact with people.

Education and experience include high school or equivalent experience and two years or more of similar or related work experience preferred.

Supervisory responsibilities include instructing, assigning work, reviewing work, planning the work of others, maintaining standards, allocating personnel, and coordinating the activities of others. Selecting new employees, acting on employee problems, recommending employee transfers, promotions, discipline, discharge, and salary adjustments.

Physical requirements include the ability to physically perform medium work, visual requirements, and the ability to perform the following physical activities : climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions.

Working conditions include exposure to dust, noise, temperature extremes, equipment movement hazards, electrical shock, exposure to chemicals and solvents, and a fast-paced work environment.

Equipment used to perform the job includes pallet jack, box cutter, cash registers, knives, trash compactor, cardboard baler, fork lift, computer, calculator, telephone, FAX machine, two wheeler, register computer, ordering machine, use of limited power equipment, delivery vehicle, Western Union, Hunting / Fishing license computer, and money order machine.

Financial responsibility includes being authorized to purchase merchandise and supplies and order repairs on equipment.

Contacts include daily contact with customers, employees, suppliers / vendors, and the general public. Occasional contact with federal or state regulatory agencies regarding inspections.

Confidentiality includes access to confidential information which may include pricing, sales reports, profit and loss reports, and wages.
