Customs Reconciliation Analyst
This person is a financial and compliance checker for U.S. customs operations. They make sure the company is paying the right duties, properly claiming trade benefits, and keeping meticulous records for audits and CBP inquiries. It's a mix of data analysis, bookkeeping, compliance, and document management.
The person ensures that the company's customs records and payments are accurate, reconciled, and compliant with U.S. customs regulations. They focus on analyzing trade data, validating documentation, and supporting customs-related financial and administrative processes.
Compare the company's internal customs data with supplier invoices and broker-prepared documents.
Reconcile customs values and Free Trade Agreement claims to make sure everything matches and is correct.
Use Microsoft Excel and potentially SAP to analyze data in detail.
Spot discrepancies in invoices, bills, and customs filings.
Organize customs-related documents from CBP (e.g., CF28s, CF29s, Liquidated Damages notices).
Maintain accurate logs of customs bills, refunds, and other related documentation.
Assist solicitation or procurement teams by preparing reports, metrics, and analysis of customs data discrepancies.
Help administrative processes, like combining documents, printing, mailing, or responding to CBP inquiries.
Ensure that all U.S. customs reporting and financial data are correct.
Help the company avoid errors that could result in penalties, overpayments, or compliance issues.
Analytical skills : Reviewing invoices, customs entries, and financial data to ensure accuracy.
Attention to detail : Errors in customs documents can be costly; accuracy is critical.
Communication skills : Explaining findings and coordinating with suppliers, brokers, and internal teams.
Organization : Managing many documents, logs, and reports systematically.
Basic job duties may include but are not limited to :
Bachelor Degree
Bachelor in a related field preferred. 2+ years' experience working in customs, international trade, or a related field.
Strong analytical skills and ability to conduct detailed data analysis.
Experience in Microsoft Excel. Experience working in SAP is a plus.
Effective verbal and written communication skills.
Able to work in a collaborative team environment.
Strong organizational skills and detail oriented.
