Director of Tax & Accounting

Hybrid – Methuen, MA

Overview :

A progressive and tech-forward accounting firm is seeking a Director of Tax & Accounting to lead and grow our established Tax & Accounting department. We deliver a full suite of client accounting services—including CAS, payroll, tax preparation, and advisory—serving business owners and high-net-worth individuals. We are deeply committed to building trusted, long-term partnerships with our clients and team members alike.

This is an excellent opportunity for a rising leader—perhaps a Senior Manager or Manager at a regional firm—seeking greater autonomy, meaningful leadership responsibilities, and a voice in firm administration. Ideal candidates may be ready for a change due to firm mergers or are looking to make a larger impact within a smaller, more agile organization.

We leverage platforms like TaxCaddy for client data collection and e-signatures, and SurePrep for OCR-driven data entry into UltraTax. Our tax department processes ~350 returns annually (150 business / 200 personal), with work starting early in the season due to internally prepared financials.

What You'll Do :

Leadership & Oversight

• Oversee the Tax & Accounting department, setting clear goals and KPIs
• Manage team capacity and ensure timely, accurate workflow execution
• Review and sign final tax returns
• Lead team training, mentoring, and development
• Identify and implement process improvements for greater efficiency and quality
