We are seeking a knowledgeable and detail-oriented Tax Preparer to join our growing team. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing accurate and timely federal and state tax returns for individuals, small businesses, and self-employed clients. The ideal applicant has experience in tax preparation, strong customer service skills, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities :
Prepare and file accurate federal, state, and local tax returns for individuals and small businesses
Review financial records, such as income statements and documentation of expenditures
Conduct initial client interviews to gather information and assess tax needs
Stay up to date on tax law changes, deductions, and credits
Resolve client questions and tax issues with professionalism and confidentiality
Maintain proper documentation and organize client files
Identify potential tax credits and liabilities to ensure maximum refunds or minimal liabilities
Advise clients on tax planning strategies and record keeping practices
Ensure compliance with IRS regulations and company policies
Work closely with team members to support seasonal workload and deadlines
Requirements
High school diploma or equivalent; associate’s or bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field preferred
Minimum 1–2 years of experience preparing tax returns
Registered Tax Preparer with CTEC (California) or Enrolled Agent (EA) designation preferred
Strong knowledge of federal and California tax laws
Proficiency with tax preparation software (e.g., Drake, Lacerte, or similar)
Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
Ability to explain complex tax concepts to clients in a clear and helpful manner
Strong communication and customer service skills
Must maintain confidentiality and ethical standards
Work Environment & Schedule :
Office-based role in Oakland, CA
Peak season requires overtime and occasional weekend hours
Off-season may offer flexible or part-time schedules
