Florida Cancer Specialists Foundation - Patient Support Volunteer (Sun City Center).
The FCS Foundation is a 501(3)(c) nonprofit organization founded in 2011 and located at 5204 Paylor Lane in Sarasota, Florida. The FCS Foundation assists cancer patients across the state of Florida. Because of the generosity of Florida Cancer Specialists partner physicians who cover all overhead expenses for the Foundation, 100% of donations received go directly toward paying the essential non-medical living expenses of an adult battling cancer.
Responsibilities
- Volunteer to brighten a cancer patient's day by providing non-medical support to patients undergoing treatment.
- In the infusion area, offer a snack or beverage to a patient, hand out warm blankets, share reading materials, talk and listen, wipe down infusion chairs, and help support the nurses with restocking supplies.
Ideal candidate
Ideal candidates may be a retiree, cancer survivor, or a caregiver of someone with cancer.College students with an interest in oncology, nursing, or medicine will also be considered.Minimum time commitment of 3 hours per week for at least six months.Other requirements
Complete a phone interview.Complete a criminal history check and drug / nicotine screening. Note : FCS is a nicotine and medical marijuana free workplace. Individuals who test positive for nicotine or medical marijuana will not be permitted to participate in the volunteer program.Complete a health screening : Tuberculosis (TB) testing and Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, and Varicella immunizations or approved exemptions are required for Patient Support Volunteers.An influenza vaccine is required annually (August 1 through March 31).Seniority level
