Fleet Maintenance Manager
Our client, a leader in the waste management industry, is seeking an experienced and proactive Fleet Maintenance Manager to oversee the maintenance and repair of their fleet of waste collection vehicles. The company is committed to operational excellence and sustainability, and the Fleet Maintenance Manager will play a crucial role in ensuring the reliability and safety of the fleet.
The Fleet Maintenance Manager is responsible for managing all aspects of fleet maintenance, including scheduling, repairs, preventive maintenance, and compliance with safety standards. This role involves leading a team of mechanics and technicians, managing budgets, and working closely with operations to ensure that vehicles are in optimal condition. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in fleet management, strong leadership skills, and a commitment to safety and efficiency.
Key responsibilities include :
- Overseeing the maintenance and repair of all waste collection vehicles, ensuring they are safe, reliable, and meet operational needs.
- Developing and implementing a preventive maintenance program to reduce downtime and extend the life of the fleet.
- Leading, training, and managing a team of mechanics and technicians, providing guidance, support, and performance evaluations to ensure high standards of work.
- Managing the fleet maintenance budget, including labor, parts, and external services, ensuring cost-effective operations while maintaining quality standards.
- Ensuring all fleet operations comply with local, state, and federal regulations, including DOT and OSHA requirements, and maintaining accurate records for audits.
- Overseeing the inventory of parts and supplies, ensuring that necessary materials are available for timely repairs and maintenance.
- Working with external vendors and service providers to negotiate contracts, manage relationships, and ensure high-quality service.
- Promoting and enforcing safety protocols, conducting regular safety meetings, and ensuring all team members are trained in safe work practices.
- Preparing and presenting regular reports on fleet performance, maintenance activities, costs, and compliance to the Operations Manager.
- Identifying and implementing process improvements to enhance fleet performance, reduce costs, and improve operational efficiency.
Qualifications include :
Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in fleet maintenance or management, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role, preferably within the waste management or transportation industry.High school diploma or equivalent required; a degree in Automotive Technology, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field is preferred.Strong leadership and team management abilities.In-depth knowledge of vehicle maintenance, repair procedures, and fleet management practices.Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills.Proficiency in fleet management software and tools.Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.Knowledge of safety regulations and compliance requirements.ASE certification or equivalent is preferred; a valid driver's license is required.Benefits include :
