Counseling and Mental Health Center (CMHC) is an accredited on-campus mental health facility dedicated to supporting the well-being of UT Austin students. CMHC offers a range of services, including assessment and referral, group and individual counseling, psychiatry and well-being services.

Purpose

The Counseling and Mental Health Center is seeking to immediately fill a General Counselor with a special focus on survivors of sexual assault, relationship violence, and stalking .

The candidates will be considered from three (3) possible counseling disciplines : Social Work, Psychology and Professional Counseling.

Responsibilities

Provide short-term individual and group counseling, crisis intervention, and prevention and outreach services to undergraduate and graduate students with a special focus on survivors of sexual assault, relationship violence, and stalking .

Conduct initial assessments of students' presenting concerns. Conduct short-term counseling with students referred for service.

Maintain timely, accurate, and complete documentation of all service contacts as required by center policies and procedures.

Develop and implement programmatic interventions which address the mental health needs of students who have or are experiencing violence.

Identify group assignment preferences and propose / develop new groups, as appropriate.

Initiate advertising / recruitment and screening for group.

Facilitate VAV-related groups.

Demonstrate knowledge about group counseling and / or seek appropriate training.

Provide Prevention and Outreach services centered around relationship violence prevention, impacts of interpersonal violence, and other related topics.

Foster relationships with key campus contacts for the purpose of developing and implementing programmatic interventions that generate substantial participation by students.

Participate in the prevention and outreach team meetings by contributing new ideas, engaging in problem solving, and seeking better ways to impact the mental health needs of students.

Utilize staff and participant feedback forms whenever appropriate

Reviews client record to determine the progress, effectiveness, and appropriateness of treatment services offered. Maintains current, accurate and timely clinical documentation in accordance with state and federal law, professional ethics, and Counseling and Mental Health Center, CMHC, policies. Coordinates referrals between CMHC and university or community service providers.

Provide clinical consultation to others on an as-needed basis and seeks consultation when appropriate. Provide urgent care services as necessary to students. Works collaboratively and cooperatively with other mental health professionals on CMHC's multidisciplinary staff and other university departments and organizations. Develop linkages with key contacts of the designated population or issue for the purpose of developing and implementing programmatic interventions which generate substantial participation by students.

Provide clinical training and supervision to social work and psychology interns, as well as pre-doctoral psychology practicum students.

Provides individual supervision of interns, practicum students, or psychiatric residents.

Provides individual supervision of group co-leaders.

Supervises interns' supervision of practicum students.

Co-leads training seminars.

Offers and supervises preceptorships and apprenticeships for interns.

Participates on training-related committees.

Participates in training activities during the orientation period.

Timely signature on clinical documentation and communication with supervisor of relevant issues.

Other required activities

Attend and participate in departmental and division meetings and staff development programs as assigned.

Participates in the prevention and outreach team meetings by contributing new ideas, engaging in problem solving and seeking better ways to impact the mental health needs of students.

Comply with all CMHC and UT policies, procedures, and guidelines.

May be assigned other relevant duties as applicable

Required Qualifications

License Requirement

Professional Counselor :

Licensed to practice independently as a professional counselor in Texas

If licensed in another state, must be able to obtain license to practice independently in Texas within one year

Social Work :

Licensed to practice independently as a Clinical Social Worker in Texas

If licensed in another state, must be able to obtain license to practice independently in Texas within one year

Psychology :

Licensed to practice independently as a Psychologist in Texas or license eligible within one year

If licensed in another state, must be able to obtain license to practice independently in Texas within one year

Educational Requirements

Professional Counseling :

Master's Degree in Counseling, Counseling Psychology, Clinical Psychology, or Social Work or other degree which meets eligibility requirement in Texas for licensure and licensed as a Professional Counselor or the equivalent from another state must be able to obtain licensure in Texas within one year if licensed in another state.

Social Work :

Master's Degree in Counseling, Counseling Psychology, Clinical Psychology, or Social Work or other degree which meets eligibility requirement in Texas for licensure and licensed as a Clinical Social Worker or the equivalent from another state must be able to obtain licensure in Texas within one year if licensed in another state.

Psychology :

Doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology, Counseling Psychology or other degree acceptable to the Texas Board of Examiners of Psychology. Licensed as a Psychologist or the equivalent from another state must be able to obtain licensure in Texas within one year if licensed in another state.

One year, full-time equivalent, post-doctoral clinical experience in college or university counseling center or other relevant clinical setting.

Required Qualifications

Experience working in a college / university counseling center or outpatient mental health setting.

Demonstrated experience in providing crisis intervention, brief individual therapy, care coordination, and case management to college students and / or young adults with a special focus on survivors of sexual assault, relationship violence, and stalking .

Experience providing culturally competent treatment to a varied client population

Excellent verbal and communication skills

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

Two years of experience in providing brief individual therapy to college students in a university counseling center

Demonstrated ability to work effectively and collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team integrating both a medical model and a developmental perspective

Expertise in any of the following treatment modalities : ACT, CBT, and / or, DBT

Specialized training or expertise working with trauma and / or eating disorders

Experience and expertise working with college students who have marginalized identities or who historically underutilized mental health services

Demonstrated ability to work effectively with campus personnel, such as professionals in academic affairs and other student services providers

Demonstrated ability to work within a large system and to participate and collaborate effectively in a large mental health services agency

Licensed to practice independently for two years

Salary Range

Social Work / Professional Counselor - $78,000 + depending on qualifications and license

Psychology - $90,000 + depending on qualifications and license

Working Conditions

May work around standard office conditions

Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation

Exposure to chemicals and commercial items typically found in office, medical clinics, and building repairs / maintenance.
