Job Summary
The Laser Operator is responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining CNC laser cutting machines in a precision sheet metal manufacturing environment. This position plays a key role in producing high-quality, dimensionally accurate components for aerospace and industrial applications. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, safety-focused, and committed to meeting production and quality standards in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
Select appropriate programs, adjust cutting parameters, and monitor machine performance to ensure accurate part production.
Load and unload metal sheets using appropriate handling equipment and safety procedures.
Production Support - Maintain continuous part flow through the laser department to support production schedules.
Monitor part quality during production runs and make machine adjustments as needed.
Quality Control & Inspection - Conduct first article and in-process inspections using calipers, micrometers, height gauges, and other precision measuring tools.
Ensure all parts meet dimensional, visual, and tolerance requirements per AS9100 and customer specifications.
Maintenance & Housekeeping - Perform routine machine maintenance, including lens cleaning and nozzle checks, to ensure optimal performance.
Keep work areas clean and organized in accordance with 5S standards and safety guidelines.
Team Collaboration - Coordinate with production leads, quality inspectors, and material handlers to support workflow and minimize downtime.
Participate in continuous improvement and cross-training initiatives within the department.
Qualifications
Education and Experience - High school diploma or GED required.
2+ years of experience operating CNC laser cutting machines (Amada, Trumpf, or similar) preferred.
Sills & Competencies - Strong mechanical aptitude and attention to detail.
Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and part specifications.
Physical Requirements - Ability to stand for extended periods, bend, lift up to 50 lbs, and perform repetitive tasks.
Exposure to noise, sharp materials, and machine operation in a manufacturing environment.
Work Environment - Work is performed on the production floor, with regular interaction with engineering, quality, and production teams.
Schedule - Hours : 2 : 15 PM – 10 : 45 PM, Monday – Friday (Some flexibility may be required based on production needs).
Compensation - Hourly Rate : $20 - $26 per hour
