Job Description
Overview :
The Civil Project Engineer will provide engineering support for the design, analysis, evaluation, and field implementation of civil and structural projects at Palo Verde Nuclear Generating Station. This position requires a strong foundation in civil / structural engineering, seismic design, and construction practices, with responsibilities spanning project design, field inspections, and compliance with nuclear safety and industry standards. The ideal candidate will possess a civil engineering degree, be Standard Design Process (SDP) qualified, and have proven experience working with concrete, steel, carbon fiber, and structural systems in a regulated environment.
Key Responsibilities :
- Project Engineering & Design :
- Plan, design, and execute civil / structural engineering projects, including structural supports, building modifications, and facility upgrades.
- Develop engineering calculations, drawings, specifications, and design documentation in accordance with site procedures and regulatory requirements.
- Apply seismic design principles to ensure structural integrity and safety under operating and design-basis events.
- Structural & Material Expertise :
- Design and evaluate structures involving concrete, steel, and carbon fiber reinforcement systems.
- Provide technical recommendations for material selection, repair methods, and retrofit strategies to extend asset life.
- Utilize knowledge of AISC and ACI codes to ensure structural designs meet industry standards.
- Field Engineering & Inspections :
- Conduct field inspections to verify design implementation, construction quality, and compliance with specifications.
- Support construction and maintenance teams during project execution, resolving technical issues and providing field engineering guidance.
- Project Execution & Support :
- Manage project scope, schedule, and deliverables while coordinating across engineering, maintenance, construction, and operations teams.
- Provide engineering support for regulatory submittals, design change packages, and modification packages.
- Lead and support engineering evaluations for corrective action, operability, and system performance improvement initiatives.
Qualifications :
Education : Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering (required).Certification : Standard Design Process (SDP) qualification (required).Experience :5+ years of civil / structural engineering experience, preferably in nuclear power, energy, or heavy industrial environments.Strong background in structural, concrete, steel, carbon fiber applications, seismic design, and building design.Field engineering or construction support experience preferred.Technical Knowledge :Proficiency with industry codes and standards, including :AISC Manual of Steel ConstructionAISC 360-70 / 360-16 Specification for Structural Steel BuildingsACI (American Concrete Institute) CodesFamiliarity with regulatory requirements and design processes applicable to nuclear facilities.Skills & Competencies :Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.Effective communication and collaboration with cross-functional teams.Ability to manage multiple projects and meet strict deadlines in a safety-focused environment.Preferred Qualifications :
Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain one.Experience with design change processes, field modifications, or outage support in a nuclear facility.Familiarity with digital engineering tools, CAD, or structural analysis software.
