About the Role : The Frozen Buyer will report to the Senior Buyer of Frozen Foods, and will be responsible for managing all aspects of their assigned categories with the Department. This individual must possess the strategic planning and communication skills needed to plan and direct the future growth of these categories, able to make quick buying decisions, manage key supplier relationships and provide direction to an Associate Buyer and Assistant Buyer. The individual must be able to manage a dynamic merchandise assortment that changes weekly based on the opportunistic inventories available while maintaining an overall inventory level that is consistent for the stores and achieves the company inventory and turns objectives. Given the broad nature of the merchandise sub-categories within the categories, this individual must have the ability to develop a solid understanding of Grocery Outlet's core customer and have a "gut merchant" sense about the how various items will perform at deeply discounted retail pricing. The position is based in Emeryville, CA and will require travel outside of the office (including visits to GOI and competitive stores as required).
Responsibilities Include :
- Working effectively with other departments related to purchasing Planning, Marketing, Operations, Distribution and BT.
- Ability to establish relationships with our existing supplier base.
- Possesses a good understanding of Grocery Outlet and the supplier community and has built momentum in growing the business as a result.
- Successfully identify new product opportunities and successfully incorporated them into the mix.
- Partner with the planning team to identify category specific opportunities that strategically maximize sales and minimize loss.
- Actively adjust retail price, margin, value to the customer, risk, and timing during a negotiation to achieve a win-win with a vendor.
- Consistently recommend and advocate innovative solutions during the negotiating process.
- Confirm the needs and concerns of vendors and account for them in the negotiating process to ensure they feel like a strong partner.
- Rapidly prioritize which deals to pursue and follow up in a timely response.
- Take the lead in inspiring others with differing viewpoints to work together for mutual benefit.
- Set the example of being easy to work with.
- Capture and share information about strategic suppliers so others can benefit as they build their own relationships.
- Inspire others through personal example in remaining teachable and open to new ideas regardless of years of experience or level in the company

About The Pay :

5 years of experience buying or selling consumer product goods (perishable foods preferred)Experience working with a discontinuous product assortment and / or in a discount retailer is a plus.Current relationships with industry contacts currently selling to the off-price or discount retailers is a plus.A skilled negotiator who also has the ability to forge long-term relationships with suppliers.The innate ability to know what items will be trends and hot sellers that appeal to the Grocery Outlet customer coupled with the confidence to act on those instincts and demonstrated success in doing so.Demonstrated track record of providing strategic vision and the tactical skills needed to execute the plan.Strong inventory management and merchandising skills and ability to effectively communicate with store operators.Entrepreneurial spirit coupled with the strong analytical and organizational skillsThe ability to nurture existing channels of business as well as cultivate new product sources.The ability to travel outside the office as needed.The "roll-up-your sleeves" attitude needed to be successful.A true team player who is concerned with achieving positive outcomes and willing to get involved with all aspects of the buying process.Proven track record of successfully growing their segment of the business as indicated by profitable growth.Demonstrated the ability to conceptualize plans for growth and the tactical skills to effectively integrate them at the product level into Grocery Outlet.Solid team building skills, with a strong interest in professional development and mentoring of team members.Highly organized with a strong attention to detail.Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
