Overview
Summary : Responsible for the care and safety of assigned children. As a member of the multidisciplinary treatment team, assumes primary residential care counselor role. Responsible for input into the formulation of a therapeutic residential treatment plan, and the implementation, observation, and documentation of this program under the direction of the Residential Care Supervisor. Responsibilities
- Support initial therapeutic alliance with child and family on admission.
- Complete initial milieu assessment within 24 hours of admission.
- Develop initial problem list and residential care plan within 24 hours of admission.
- Review residential care plan and problem list daily, revising as necessary.
- Communicate individual child residential treatment plans to other Program staff, including liaison with other multidisciplinary treatment providers.
- Actively participate in DPC\'s, treatment team, and shift report.
- Be aware of Program QA indicators and responsibilities related to them.
- Accurately document significant child / family observations / milieu treatment in the child\'s chart in a timely fashion.
- Share information and knowledge with staff via formal and informal staff development forums.
- Support and contribute to the development of residential care plans / behavioral management.
- Assist and teach the child in activities of daily living and personal hygiene based on the child\'s level of competence.
- Demonstrate the ability to set consistent, supportive therapeutic limits within Hospital, Program, and Department standards.
- Institute behavioral programs specific to the child\'s needs in collaboration with off-line clinicians.
- Participate in organizing Program activities and consistently model appropriate therapeutic staff / child interactions.
- Support and participate in the recreation therapy program.
- Handle crisis situations in a safe, effective manner using the least restrictive, safe patient care alternative.
- Seek supervision (formal and informal) and incorporate suggestions for improvement.
- Maintain a safe and therapeutic environment.
- Contribute to the development and operationalization of the residential care plan for assigned children according to Department and Program procedures.
- Maintain and document level of child observation as ordered by physician or Program Director each shift.
- Supervise assigned children in daily routines and assist with activities of daily living.
- Identify, report, and resolve potential problems in the Program.
- Demonstrate appropriate incident follow-up skills by timely verbal reporting and chart documentation.
- Intervene in disruptive milieu situations with timely therapeutic interventions.
- Adhere to Hospital, Departmental, and Program policies and procedures.
- Attend Program meetings and staff development sessions as assigned.
- Maintain current certifications in crisis management, CPR, ERS, Safety & OSHA.
- Participate in the residential child care planning process and initial admission interviews as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Baccalaureate Degree in a Human Service field ; other education and experience may be substituted at the Hiring Manager\'s discretion.Demonstrated knowledge and skills to provide care to patients across the life span with consideration of aging, development, and cultural patterns.Six months to one year of direct child care work with emotionally impaired youth.Current Bradley Hospital Crisis Management certification or enrollment in Bradley Hospital course.Current CPR certification.Current ERS, Safety & OSHA certification.Independent Action
Performs independently within Program policies and practices; refers complex problems to supervisor when clarification is required.
