Unit Information
Unit Name : 3N – Cardiac TelemetryCost Center : 14Bed Count : 43 beds (Semi-private; 9–10 private rooms)Typical Patient Ratios :RN : 1 : 5 (can flex up to 1 : 6)
PCTs : Goal 1 : 8, but can flex up to 1 : 12–18 depending on staffingCommon Diagnoses / Patient Population
Post-cardiac catheterizations (post heart caths)TR bandsCongestive Heart Failure (CHF)Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD)Post pacemaker placements (no external pacers)Medical management or awaiting CABG consultArrhythmiasRequired Skills & Experience
✅ Must be able to read telemetry strips✅ Comfortable managing cardiac / telemetry patients✅ RN’s expected to perform EKGs if PCTs are unavailableDrips & Monitoring
Are RNs required to titrate drips? Yes, but only HeparinCommon Drips :Titrated : Heparin, occasional Lasix or Bumex
Set Rate (Not titrated) : Cardizem, AmiodaroneMonitor Techs : Yes – central monitoring station for the entire North TowerRNs must still read their own telemetry stripsStaffing & Support
Charge Nurse :On days : Available 24 / 7, generally without assignment, but may take patients based on unit needs
