Under the supervision of nursing staff, provides direct patient care and assists with maintaining a safe and therapeutic environment.

Responsibilities include :

• Inventory and monitor patient belongings.
• Manage supplies on the unit.
• Provide or assist with providing direct patient care, diagnostic procedures and therapeutic interventions.
• Provide crisis intervention on the unit to maintain safety.
• Assist patients with performing activities of daily living.
• Observe and record patient behavior and activities.
• Report any changes in physical, mental or emotional condition to nursing staff and suggest modifications to the treatment plan.

Additional job information :

Complexity of work : Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.

Required work experience : No prior work experience required.

Other information : Psychiatric Assistants who work in any of the Behavioral Health units are required to perform safety rounds on all assigned patients every 15 minutes and to record activities / locations of patients on the assigned rounding sheet upon the completion of each 15 minute rounding session.
