Overview

Senior Data Engineering Manager role at CVS Health. Lead and mentor a data engineering team to scale the data platform, establish best practices, and deliver on the data needs of the business. Hands-on leader with strong people management and technical execution skills.

The data engineering team is responsible for processing Claims, Revenue, and Medicare specific data from 30+ payors into the Data Warehouse.

Responsibilities

  • Team Leadership & Management :

Lead, mentor, and grow a team of data engineers, fostering technical excellence, collaboration, and continuous learning.

  • Handle hiring, training, and professional development of team members.
  • Conduct performance reviews, provide feedback, and guide career paths.
  • Technical Strategy & Execution :

    • Own the technical vision and roadmap for the data platform, aligned with business objectives and scalable with company growth.

  • Lead design, development, and maintenance of robust, scalable data pipelines and data warehouses.
  • Drive data modeling, ETL / ELT, and data governance best practices.
  • Oversee implementation of new data technologies and architectures.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration :

    • Partner with product managers, data scientists, analysts, and other engineering teams to understand data needs and deliver solutions.

  • Translate complex business requirements into actionable technical plans.
  • Communicate progress to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Operational Excellence :

    • Ensure the data platform meets standards for performance, security, and data quality.

  • Establish and maintain a culture of operational excellence including monitoring, alerting, and incident response.
  • Manage and optimize data infrastructure costs.

    • Required Qualifications

  • A bachelor's or master's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, or a related field.
  • 7+ years of experience in data engineering, with 5+ years in a technical leadership or management role.
  • Proven experience building and leading high-performing data engineering teams.
  • Deep expertise with modern data technologies, including :
  • Cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
  • Big data frameworks (e.g., Apache Spark, Hadoop).
  • Data warehousing solutions (e.g., Snowflake, Redshift, BigQuery).
  • Workflow orchestration tools (e.g., Airflow, Dagster).
  • Solid experience with SQL, Python, PySpark.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
  • A strategic mindset with the ability to balance long-term vision with immediate business needs.
  • Experience with real-time data streaming technologies (e.g., Kafka).

    • Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with healthcare data and healthcare insurance feeds
  • Familiarity with Data Analytics and reporting
  • Familiarity with ML / AI

    • Education

  • Bachelor\'s degree in Computer Science / Engineering

    • Pay Range

    The Typical Pay Range For This Role Is $130,295.00 - $260,590.00. The actual base salary offer will depend on factors including experience, education, geography and other relevant factors. This position is eligible for CVS Health bonus or incentive programs and may include equity.
