Job Summary :
We are seeking a highly skilled Communications Engineer specializing in Land Mobile Radio (LMR) systems. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise working with Motorola, L3Harris, and Kenwood platforms and will provide technical leadership for system integration, configuration, testing, and maintenance to support our ongoing SFMTA initiatives. This is a full-time, onsite role in Columbia, MD.
Key Responsibilities :
Provide technical leadership and hands-on support for integration, configuration, testing, and maintenance of Motorola, L3Harris, and Kenwood LMR systems.
Collaborate with internal software, network engineers, and field technicians to resolve complex system integration challenges and ensure seamless interoperability.
Work closely with vendor partners to plan and execute system integration activities, including assessment and troubleshooting of RF and LMR infrastructure (base stations, repeaters, antennas, combiners, network interfaces).
Perform acceptance testing, validation, and certification of LMR systems for operational deployment within transit and public safety environments.
Develop and execute detailed test plans, documenting results and providing recommendations for optimization and issue resolution.
Conduct root cause analysis of system faults and develop mitigation strategies to ensure system reliability and availability.
Maintain accurate documentation of system configurations, design changes, test reports, and integration procedures.
Provide ongoing technical support, preventive maintenance, and system upgrades as part of the LMR system lifecycle.
Technical Skills & Qualifications :
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications Engineering, or related field.
5–10 years hands-on experience with integration and maintenance of Motorola (ASTRO, P25), L3Harris, and Kenwood LMR platforms.
Strong knowledge of P25 standards, trunked radio systems, simulcast, and interoperability frameworks.
Solid understanding of IP-based backhaul networks for LMR systems.
Comprehensive understanding of FCC regulations, licensing, and spectrum management.
Proficiency with measurement instruments : spectrum analyzers, oscilloscopes, vector analyzers, antenna analyzers, network analyzers, RF power meters.
Experience installing and programming cellular routers is highly valued.
Superior problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze, diagnose, and resolve complex system-level issues.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills for technical documentation and collaboration.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams.
