Fire Science Technician
Under the supervision of the Fire Science Technology Assistant Dean of Instruction and the Faculty, the Fire Science Technician will work in concert with the faculty to provide quality learning experiences for fire science students. This position is expected to engage with students in both a classroom setting and a laboratory setting including live fire. The Fire Science Technician will identify the individual learning needs of Fire Science students and teach students to increase their performance on various tasks.
This is a part-time position which is limited to 28 hours per CMC's workweek. CMC's workweek is Saturday through Friday.
Education and experience sufficient to meet the rigors of the position. Examples may include Education or Training : The ideal candidate for this position will hold Colorado Division of Fire Prevention and Control Certifications in : Firefighter I, Firefighter II, Hazardous Material Operations & Technician, Fire and Emergency Services Instructor I, or Fire Instructor I. Additionally, this position will hold current certifications : Emergency Medical Technician Basic, BLS for Healthcare Provider.
Experience in lieu of a degree is appropriate for this position. The ideal candidate will have 400 hours serving as a Firefighter 1 with a Fire District or as a volunteer. Must possess communication and interpersonal skills; willingness to work with faculty and other teaching assistants in a live-fire training scenario; ability to conduct physical training with students.

The hiring pay rate is $31.96 per hour. Benefits include retirement contribution, annual and sick time, mental health resources, and tuition benefit. CMC utilizes a wage progression compensation model that accounts for a candidate's skill and experience. Although a hiring rate is listed, this will be set commensurate with the successful candidate's qualifications and in compliance with the Equal Pay for Equal Work Act.

This position reports to the Fire Science Technology Assistant Dean of Instruction, or his / her designee and works within the framework of responsibilities but may require guidance at times.
Position has no supervisory responsibility.
Successful completion of a background check including a motor vehicles records report required. Incumbents in this position will adhere to all safety and compliance policies of Colorado Mountain College while performing all duties assigned. This position may be required to transport students from a campus to the live fire training ground in Dotsero, CO with a CMC vehicle. This position is expected to work within the scheduling of Fire Science Technology courses that may meet on a 48 / 96 schedule.
This position requires constant sitting, occasional walking, standing, and driving; occasional handling objects, pushing / pulling; frequent reaching with hands / arms, and use of finger movements; occasional lifting, carrying, pushing or pulling objects up to 50 lbs. Constant written and oral communication and the ability to reason and analyze and perform calculations occasionally. Work is performed using a computer and standard office equipment daily and driving a vehicle occasionally.
