Job Title : PCU Registered Nurse (RN)
Location : Hays, KS – 2220 Canterbury Dr
Shift : Day 4x12-Hour (07 : 00 – 19 : 00), weekend rotation, float as needed
Unit : 6120 MPCU, Patient Ratio 1 : 4–5
Facility : Level III Trauma, Acute Care Hospital, 149 staffed beds, teaching hospital
Charting System : Meditech
Key Notes :
Orientation : 16 hours, non-billableRN-to-patient ratio : 1 : 4–5, may float to other units if short-staffedLocals within 45 miles not acceptedFree parking for traveling nursesRTO requests must be approved and documented; keep to a minimum during first 2 weeksCOVID vaccine : Not required; Flu vaccine : UnknownBlock scheduling : No more than 3–4 consecutive shiftsLab compliance : Qgold TB test within 24 hours and negative 13-panel drug screen within 30 daysJob Overview :
Provide specialized nursing care to adult patients in a high-acuity PCU unit. The RN will monitor patient vitals, administer medications, collaborate with the care team, and ensure safe, high-quality patient care .
Responsibilities :
Monitor patient vitals, IVs, and telemetry as neededAdminister medications including IV drips; manage lines and drainsCollaborate with physicians and interdisciplinary team members for care planningEducate patients and families on care and post-discharge instructionsMaintain accurate documentation and follow hospital policies and proceduresFloat within scope as needed for short-staffed unitsRequirements :
Current RN license (WV / Compact not accepted for this facility)Minimum 1 year RN experience; IV start experience requiredACLS and BLS certifications requiredWeekend rotation and holiday work requiredAbility to float to meet unit staffing needsFirst-time RNs acceptedStrong multitasking, critical reasoning, and communication skillsAdditional Information :
Guaranteed hours : 40 / week (8-rule & 10-rule)On-call : No; Charge Nurse : $3 / hr; On Call : $5 / hr; Holiday : 1.25%; Call Back : 1%Overtime : 1.25x after 40 hours / weekFacility provides scrubs (any color; OR / L&D / Cath Lab scrubs included)Commitment to a flexible schedule and ability to float is essentialSpecial Requirements :
