Job Title : PCU Registered Nurse (RN)

Location : Hays, KS – 2220 Canterbury Dr

Shift : Day 4x12-Hour (07 : 00 – 19 : 00), weekend rotation, float as needed

Unit : 6120 MPCU, Patient Ratio 1 : 4–5

Facility : Level III Trauma, Acute Care Hospital, 149 staffed beds, teaching hospital

Charting System : Meditech

Key Notes :

  • Orientation : 16 hours, non-billable
  • RN-to-patient ratio : 1 : 4–5, may float to other units if short-staffed
  • Locals within 45 miles not accepted
  • Free parking for traveling nurses
  • RTO requests must be approved and documented; keep to a minimum during first 2 weeks
  • COVID vaccine : Not required; Flu vaccine : Unknown
  • Block scheduling : No more than 3–4 consecutive shifts
  • Lab compliance : Qgold TB test within 24 hours and negative 13-panel drug screen within 30 days
  • Job Overview :

    Provide specialized nursing care to adult patients in a high-acuity PCU unit. The RN will monitor patient vitals, administer medications, collaborate with the care team, and ensure safe, high-quality patient care .

    Responsibilities :

  • Monitor patient vitals, IVs, and telemetry as needed
  • Administer medications including IV drips; manage lines and drains
  • Collaborate with physicians and interdisciplinary team members for care planning
  • Educate patients and families on care and post-discharge instructions
  • Maintain accurate documentation and follow hospital policies and procedures
  • Float within scope as needed for short-staffed units
  • Requirements :

  • Current RN license (WV / Compact not accepted for this facility)
  • Minimum 1 year RN experience; IV start experience required
  • ACLS and BLS certifications required
  • Weekend rotation and holiday work required
  • Ability to float to meet unit staffing needs
  • First-time RNs accepted
  • Strong multitasking, critical reasoning, and communication skills
  • Additional Information :

  • Guaranteed hours : 40 / week (8-rule & 10-rule)
  • On-call : No; Charge Nurse : $3 / hr; On Call : $5 / hr; Holiday : 1.25%; Call Back : 1%
  • Overtime : 1.25x after 40 hours / week
  • Facility provides scrubs (any color; OR / L&D / Cath Lab scrubs included)
  • Commitment to a flexible schedule and ability to float is essential
