Job Summary and Qualifications

The RN Rapid Response Team (RRT) will respond to all RRT’s, Code Blues, Heart Alerts, Stroke Alerts, Sepsis alerts and any other patient care emergency. The RN RRT will perform surveillance by identifying the patients at risk for complications or becoming seriously ill by using proactive approach, making rounds frequently to collaborate with the bedside nurses as part of consultation without intimidating the bedside nurses. Consistent and routine presence of RN RRT will provide nurse’s support, clinical knowledge and expertise to build trust and familiarity amongst each other. The RN RRT should take the role of teacher both during and after the event in order to best help the inexperienced nurses.

About the Unit :

20 bed Intensive Care Unit

Patient to Nurse ratio 2 : 1

Caring for a variety of ICU patients with a focus on open heart

Stroke Certified Unit

Collaborate closely with the Eye Bank and Tissue and Organ Alliance

The culture on this unit includes a strong sense of teamwork, support, education, empowerment and fun!

The team is proud to actively precept nursing students from several institutions, most of whom graduate and return to the team as an RN

What you will do in this role :

Attend all RRT’s, code blues, heart alerts, stroke alerts, sepsis alerts and all other patient related emergencies. Rounds on all recent non-transferred RRT’s and Sepsis patients. Documents all RRT events in a thorough and timely manner on the RRT documentation form.

Excellent patient assessment skills including determining the frequency, scope and duration of ongoing assessments of patients not transferred to the ICU or equivalent.

Self confidence in providing immediate interventions in a calm manner effectively with focus on crisis to prevent deterioration and adverse event.

Communicate professionally with the medical team in a non-threatening manner as well as having a strong collaborative relationship with the multidisciplinary team.

Stays with the patient until the issue is resolved, appropriate interventions are completed and / or patient is safely transferred to the appropriate unit for ongoing management (assists with transport).

Coaches staff on development of assessment, communication and clinical skills when the opportunity arises.

What qualifications you will need :

Graduate of an accredited program of nursing : diploma, associate degree, or baccalaureate program required.

Must have 3-5 years of recent experience in an ICU or an ER.

Charge nurse experience preferred.

Current license to practice professional nursing in the state of Texas required

Current ACLS, NIH stoke scale required
