Your Role

The Staff Vehicle Lighting Engineer will own the conceptualization, design and development of various lighting elements within the Lighting Engineering team. This role supports Exteriors and Interiors objectives to manage a successful launch of all lighting development from concept stage through production to ensure customer satisfaction for the global automotive market. The Exterior Lighting Engineer will report to the Department Manager. Faraday X (FX) is Faraday Future\'s initiative to promote advanced intelligent electric vehicles (AIEVs) in the U.S. market through strategic partnerships, an open-source approach, and a commitment to making luxury EVs accessible to the mass market.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development of unique, innovative and advanced engineering lighting concepts and assembly designs, continuing through release and product launch support.
  • Engineer mechanical, electromechanical, lighting components along with A-class surface and electronics integration.
  • Perform feasibility checks with respect to lighting, manufacturing, control & design aspects.
  • Collaborate with suppliers to develop each applicable component / sub-system to meet weight, cost, durability, and performance targets.
  • Work with other engineering groups, suppliers and leadership to meet engineering deliverables within tight time constraints.
  • Ensure compliance of designs with vehicle / component requirements, quality objectives, program milestones, performance, cost, weight & safety.
  • Apply experience in automotive component and subsystem engineering from concept through release and launch for production.
  • Demonstrate understanding of premium luxury lighting design and systems with portfolio examples.
  • Utilize latest manufacturing technologies and feasibility execution to meet system requirements and performance targets.
  • Proficiency in 3D modeling using CATIA V6 within an automotive product development environment.
  • Strong knowledge of Design for Manufacturing, GD&T and dimensional engineering practices.
  • Experience with technical documentation across a full life cycle vehicle program (DVP&R, DFMEA).
  • Apply DFSS methodologies during design, validation and launch as appropriate.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing engineering and suppliers to transition concepts and designs to production.
  • Demonstrate ability to manage difficult projects with tight timing constraints and provide examples throughout career.
  • Be flexible and adaptable in a fast-paced environment; willing to travel domestically and / or internationally as required.
  • Understand automotive lighting design fundamentals; prototype development and testing; systems engineering fundamentals; and system power and control logic.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering (BSME, BSEE).
  • 10+ years of total work experience, with 5+ years in automotive design and development.
  • Intermediate design, packaging, A-class surface and 3D modeling skills (CATIA V5 / 6 preferred).
  • Experience with DFMEA, DVP&R, BOM management and specifications development.
  • Organized, team-oriented problem-solver with a creative passion for innovation.
  • Preferred Qualifications

  • Extensive CATIA V5 / V6 design, packaging and A-class surface skills (6,000+ hours).
  • Senior knowledge of modern lighting design, injection mold tooling, finishing, attachment schemes and assembly methodology.
  • Strong understanding of new technologies and development methods to design a world-class consumer experience.
  • Experience in multiple in-plant programs and vehicle launches.
  • English and Mandarin Chinese bilingual preferred.
  • Annual Salary Range

    ($155,000 - $200,000 DOE), plus benefits and incentive plans
