Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced Emergency Department RN for a night shift position requiring an active AZ or compact RN license and certification in ACLS, BLS, and PALS.

Responsibilities

  • Work in a 12-bed Emergency Department within an acute care setting
  • Lower acuity patient population (ESI 3-4), including abdominal pain and headache, with a focus on stabilizing and transferring critically ill patients
  • Staff-to-patient ratio is typically 1 : 4 in the ED
  • Uses Cerner EMR and Phillips telemetry equipment
  • 12-hour night shifts (7p-7a or 6p-6a), with 4 weekend shifts per 4 weeks and coverage for 2 out of 4 major holidays
  • Required to float to Litchfield FSED and Glendale FSED when needed
  • Orientation includes 2 days of floor-specific training and participation in a SIMs Lab
  • Onsite support from charge nurse, PCTs, paramedics, and an in-house physician
  • RNs complete all labs, EKGs, patient transport, and transfers
  • Team-oriented environment with a focus on maintaining a positive culture and supporting teamwork
  • Must maintain natural hair color and have no facial piercings; men must be clean shaven for fit test
  • Scrub color is navy
  • All travelers must have their own vehicle for potential floating
  • Candidates cannot have been directly employed by CommonSpirit facilities within the past year; PRN via outside agency may be considered
  • SIMs Lab pass / fail testing is strictly enforced; failure results in ineligibility for 6 months at CommonSpirit AZ / Sacramento facilities
  • Requirements

  • Active AZ RN license or compact state RN license required
  • Current certifications in BLS, ACLS, and PALS required; pending certifications not accepted
  • Minimum of 2 years recent Emergency Department RN experience
  • Must pass a dysrhythmia (DYS) exam prior to acceptance, with two attempts allowed
  • Completion of pass / fail skills assessment on sterile technique, Foley, and port-a-cath insertion on day 1 of orientation
  • Driver’s license required for 50-mile radius rule verification
  • References from one supervisor within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years are required
