PAYROLL TAX ACCOUNTANT
The Payroll Tax Accountant is responsible for ensuring accurate payroll tax reporting and compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. This role involves managing payroll tax filings, reconciling payroll tax accounts, and supporting audits and inquiries from tax authorities. The ideal candidate has strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and a deep understanding of payroll systems and tax laws.
Key Responsibilities :
- Collect, review, and analyze payroll data to ensure accurate tax reporting.
- Ensure timely and compliant filing of federal, state, and local payroll tax returns (e.g., 941s, unemployment taxes).
- Resolve payroll tax account discrepancies at the Federal, State, and local levels.
- Review changes in employee tax records, including W-4 forms and state tax forms, for accuracy.
- Monitor changes in payroll tax laws and regulations and implement necessary updates.
- Coordinate with third-party payroll vendors (e.g., Criterion, Aatrix) to ensure accurate tax filings.
- Process payroll tax deposits and payments through Aatrix in advance of their processing deadlines.
- Assist Payroll Supervisor with audits and inquiries from tax authorities.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, annual payroll tax reports. (e.g. 940, 941, W-2, state quarterly and annual filings, etc.).
- Answer employee's payroll tax related questions.
- Other duties as assigned.
Skills & Qualifications :
Experience with payroll taxes including audits and resolving discrepancies.Ability to work independently and manage multiple deadlines.Strong Excel skills and experience with reporting tools.Ability to prioritize workflow and meet deadlines.Strong knowledge of federal and multi-state payroll tax regulations.Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.Education & Experience :
Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field with 2-5 years of experience in payroll tax accounting or payroll processing.Willing to consider 5+ years of experience in lieu of bachelor's degree.CPA or CPP (Certified Payroll Professional) certification a plus.Construction accounting experience a plus.Criterion and Aatrix experience a plus.Benefits :
