JOB TITLE : Investment Analyst

POSITION SUMMARY
The Investment Analyst role provides critical support in monitoring compliance, credit quality, and market activity across the company’s investment portfolios. This position is designed for individuals with a strong academic background in finance and an interest in developing expertise in investment management. The Investment Analyst will assist in credit surveillance, compliance reporting, portfolio monitoring, and market research. The role will provide firsthand exposure to institutional portfolio management while supporting the strategic goals of Virginia Farm Bureau’s investment function.
PRIMARY DUTIES
Compliance & Monitoring
- Perform post-trade compliance checks to ensure adherence to the Investment Policy Statement (IPS), including sector limits, rating thresholds, maturities, and concentration guidelines.
- Maintain compliance logs and provide periodic summaries to management and governance groups.
Credit Surveillance & Research Support
Gather and update financial data and ratios for ongoing credit reviews.Monitor ratings actions, Bloomberg alerts, and news related to portfolio issuers.Monitor economic and financial dynamics for ongoing investment opportunities.Support the management of the internal Watchlist by tracking event-driven risk factors.Portfolio & Market Reporting
Assist in preparing monthly and quarterly portfolio reports, including key metrics (duration, WAL, convexity, sector exposures).Contribute to investment reporting packages for the Investment Governance Group and Board committees by collecting data and drafting preliminary commentary.Monitor new issue calendars (corporates, municipals, agencies, and structured products) and summarize opportunities for review.Process & Governance Support
Assist in maintaining investment documentation, including compliance records, credit review archives, and policy-related files.Support the preparation of regulatory filings (NAIC Schedules, AM Best requests) in coordination with the accounting team.Help develop and improve internal reporting processes for efficiency and accuracy.MINIMUM EDUCATIONAL / EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree in finance.2–5 years of experience with investments, finance, or economics.MINIMUM SKILL QUALIFICATIONS
Strong analytical and quantitative skills with the ability to interpret financial data.Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.Interest in capital markets, fixed income, and credit analysis.Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities.Strong written and verbal communication skills.Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
CFA designation (in progress or planned) or other relevant certification.Experience with Bloomberg strongly preferred, Clearwater Analytics, or similar financial platforms.Exposure to investment compliance or credit research through coursework or internships.
