Ventilator management

Description : Unit has 47 beds.

Nurse to patient ratios are 1 : 1 or 1 : 2.

Charge nurse does not take an assignment.

There is an ICU tech / CNA on the unit.

Hospitalist or Intensivist is in-house 24 / 7.

Respiratory Therapy is available 24 / 7.

Equipment includes vents, CPAP, BiPAP, and Nitric.

There are no monitor techs on the unit.

RNs are required to read and post strips every 4 hours.

The unit uses GE bedside and central monitors.

Self-scheduling is allowed unless the contract specifies fixed shifts.

Weekend requirements include 4 weekend shifts every other week.

No holiday requirements.

There is a call or standby requirement.

Floating to telemetry is required.

Scrub color / dress code is navy blue, hospital provided.

After general orientation, there is one shift of ICU orientation and one shift of telemetry orientation.

The hospital can cancel up to 4 shifts per 13-week assignment.

Charting system is Cerner.

BSN degree is not required.

Trauma level is unspecified.

Care setting is acute.

Division is nursing.

Shift notes specify 12-hour days, every other weekend, first to float.

Required certifications include ACLS, BLS (AHA), and NIHSS.
