Gymnastics Coordinator
Job Description
The Gymnastics Coordinator is responsible for providing leadership and direction for recreational gymnastics programs. This includes planning class curriculum, supervising staff, ensuring participant safety, and maintaining strong communication with parents, staff, and park district leadership. This part-time role requires a professional, positive, and organized individual who can manage multiple responsibilities, lead by example, and maintain a safe and engaging environment for participants and staff. Duties fall within the medium / heavy work range (lifting 4575 lbs.) and involve spotting and equipment handling.
Qualifications :
- Must be at least 21 years of age
- High school diploma or equivalent required; some college preferred
- Minimum 13 years of experience as a gymnast and / or gymnastics instructor or coach
- Experience working with children and youth
- Current CPR, AED, and First Aid certifications (or ability to obtain within first 3 months; training provided)
- USA Gymnastics Safety Certification and Professional Membership (district-paid; required) by February 1.
- Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills
- Ability to spot gymnasts and lift equipment (up to 75 lbs.)
Immediate Supervisor :
The Gymnastics Coordinator is responsible to the Recreation Supervisor-Athletics
Essential Functions :
Plan, organize, and coordinate gymnastics classesSupervise daily activities of gymnastics instructors to ensure quality instruction and safetyTrain, schedule, and evaluate instructors; make recommendations for hiringCreate and distribute staff schedules each sessionLead gymnastics staff meetings and trainingsMonitor class ratios and staff performance to ensure efficiency and safetyMaintain program policies and communicate them clearly to staff and parentsAssist in preparing seasonal brochure content and promotional materialAttend staff and planning meetings with the Recreation SupervisorInstructional Responsibilities :
Provide written class curriculums and assist with or lead class instruction as neededArrive 15 minutes early to set up for classes and prepare the gym spaceLead warm-ups and teach age-appropriate skills and drillsSpot participants safely and effectively to prevent injuriesAdapt lessons as needed to meet the needs of all participantsTrack attendance, make-up classes, and student progressMaintain and update skill progression tracking for each studentMake final recommendations for advancement to the next levelFacility & Equipment :
Set up and take down equipment as needed for classesConduct regular inspections of equipment and gym spaceEnforce proper spotting techniques and ensure skill development follows safe progressionImmediately report equipment issues to the Recreation SupervisorCommunication & Customer Service :
Serve as liaison to parents and participants; respond to concerns in a timely, professional mannerEncourage a positive environment that supports participant growth and enjoymentRespond to phone calls, emails, and inquiries regarding the gymnastics programProvide exceptional customer service aligned with District standardsClass Instruction Responsibilities :
Arrive 15 minutes before class for setupLead or assist in warm-ups and instructionTeach skills appropriate to participant level and abilityKeep participants engaged and focusedAdapt teaching methods for safety and inclusionSpot students correctly to prevent injuryAssist with long-term class planning for skill developmentTrack attendance and make-upsMaintain skill tracking system and communicate progress to parentsRecommend class advancement when appropriatePsychological Considerations :
The gymnastics coordinator may need to resolve differences and problems that arise with the children or parents or instructors. May also have to work under stressful situations when First Aid, CPR or the AED is required.
Physiological Considerations :
This position requires lifting of gym mats and equipment and also lifting and spotting the participants.
Cognitive Considerations :
The ability to use good judgment it necessary as well as a positive, friendly, and outgoing personality.
