DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW
Parking and Commuter Services is a department of Transportation Services within the VC-OMCP organization.
Parking and Commuter Services manages parking operations and alternative transportation programs across all UC San Diego and UC San Diego Health locations. The department oversees parking permit and transit pass sales, special event parking, parking facility safety and maintenance, and parking regulation enforcement. The department also plays a crucial role in campus planning by assessing parking needs, recommending new parking facilities, and implementing strategies to reducing single-occupancy vehicle trips to UC San Diego and UC San Diego Health.
Parking and Commuter Services employs a team of approximately 40 career staff and 150 student workers to manage and support campus parking operations. The department, as an auxiliary business unit, is derived from parking permit sales, citation revenue, and other related fees, which are used to fund all parking infrastructure maintenance, alternative transportation programs, and support overall campus transportation initiatives.

POSITION DESCRIPTION
Under supervision perform a variety of unskilled to semi-skilled general maintenance, preventive maintenance and building maintenance functions and tasks for UCSD's Campus and Hillcrest Medical Center Parking facilities. Assist parking operations by providing concise directions to patients and visitors around medical center. Assist with traffic control and posting of signs and set up and break down of parking control equipment.
QUALIFICATIONS
General facilities maintenance experience; demonstrated mechanical aptitude.
Experience using various hand and power tools typical to general maintenance work; ability to use brooms, rakes and shovels to perform duties.
Ability to make, install, post and retrieve directional and regulatory parking signs on Campus and Hillcrest locations.
Ability to accurately stencil and stripe parking lots / structures, as assigned.
Knowledge of custodial equipment and cleaning procedures, equipment and supplies.
Ability to climb stairs and work on stepladders safely.
Ability to lift and move various equipment, boxes, barricades and other miscellaneous items up to 75 lbs.
Strong communication skills. Ability to effectively communicate with a variety of people and provide customer service with courtesy, tact & helpful, and cooperative attitude.
Ability to use personal computers and office applications, including the ability to operate a two-way radio.
Knowledge of basic electrical safety procedures.
Ability to interact professionally, positively and effectively with diverse groups of people in a helpful manner to direct patients and visitors and answer questions about medical center parking.
Demonstrates competency and commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion.
Strong verbal, written and electronic (e-mail) communication skills to interact with TS staff, all University employees, co-workers, external vendors, visitors and students.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS
May be required to work different or altered shifts, weekends, holidays, and overtime.
Must have access to reliable transportation and / or a valid Class C Driver's License to operate University vehicles.
May participate in the DMV Pull Notice Program.
DOJ background and DMV clearances required prior to hire.
Pay Transparency Act
Annual Full Pay Range : $46,625 - $59,195 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)
Hourly Equivalent : $22.33 - $28.35
