BUS 205 Personal Finance

Course Description
Applied course in personal financial management; topics include money values and behavioral finance, budgeting, consumer buying decisions, borrowing, student loan repayment, insurance, personal real estate, income taxation, and retirement saving and investing. Students learn and develop financial skills through activity-based learning emphasizing students' individual financial goals. Prerequisite : sophomore standing.
Course Details and Resources
Personal Finance is a 3-credit, required core course that all Mount Mary students take, regardless of their major. The course is offered every semester (fall, spring, summer) in a hybrid format that meets on-campus once a week for 1 hour and 50 minutes. The remaining class time is online asynchronous. Class time and modality are fixed for Spring 2026. Class time may be flexible in future semesters depending on the instructor's availability and preference.
Instructors teaching this course will be provided a syllabus, instructor resources, and a ready-to-use master Canvas course. We're looking for someone who is passionate about teaching financial literacy and has experience using inclusive practices to make modern personal finance principles accessible to students with diverse financial experiences and socioeconomic backgrounds.
Qualifications
A master's degree in business administration or comparable field is required.
Previous university-level teaching experience is preferred.
