Description of Duties :

Position Title : Junior Systems Administrator

Location : Schriever Space Force Base, Colorado Springs, CO or Redstone Arsenal, Huntsville, AL

Relocation Assistance : None available at this time

Clearance Type : DoD Secret

Shift : Day shift

Travel Required : Up to 10% of the time

The Junior Systems Administrator supports the Missile Defense Agency (MDA) on the Integrated Research and Development for Enterprise Solutions (IRES) contract. The candidate will :

  • Perform system administration duties on Defensive Cyber Operations (DCO) suite of applications.
  • Support systems engineering, maintenance, and operations of cyber capabilities
  • Assist in troubleshooting of hardware, software, and capability of the DCO suite of applications.
  • Conduct functional and connectivity testing to ensure continuing operability.
  • Comply with organization systems administration standard operating procedures.
  • Maintain baseline system security according to organizational policies.
  • Manage accounts, network rights, and access to systems and equipment.
  • Manage system / server resources including performance, capacity, availability, serviceability, and recoverability.
  • Monitor and maintain system / server configuration.
  • Perform repairs on faulty system / server hardware.
  • Troubleshoot hardware / software interface and interoperability problems.
  • Install, update, and troubleshoot systems / servers.
  • Patch network vulnerabilities to ensure information is safeguarded against outside parties.

  • Knowledge of virtualization technologies and virtual machine development and maintenance.
  • Knowledge of organizational information technology (IT) user security policies (e.g., account creation, password rules, access control).
  • Knowledge of basic system administration, network, and operating system hardening techniques.
  • Knowledge of national and international laws, regulations, policies, and ethics as they relate to cybersecurity.
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity principles.
  • Knowledge of cyber threats and vulnerabilities.
  • Knowledge of specific operational impacts of cybersecurity lapses.
  • Knowledge of common network tools (e.g., ping, traceroute, nslookup).
  • Knowledge of cloud computing service models Software as a Service (SaaS), Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS), and Platform as a Service (PaaS).
  • Knowledge of cloud computing deployment models in private, public, and hybrid environments and the difference between on-premises and off-premises environments.
  • Be willing to support troubleshooting for shift workers in a 24x7 operational environment and respond quickly to emergencies as needed.
  • Be willing to support a rotating on-call schedule.
  • Be able to multi-task and prioritize various projects and assignments in a dynamic work environment to meet scheduled / unscheduled customer requests.

    Qualifications - External

    Basic Requirements :

  • Must have 2, or more, years of general (full-time) work experience
  • o May be reduced with completion of advanced education

  • Must have 6 months, or more, of directly related experience
  • Must have a DoD 8570.01-M IAT Level II certification with Continuing Education (CE) - (CCNA-Security, CySA+, GICSP, GSEC, Security+ CE, CND, SSCP)
  • Must have, or obtain, an active DoD 8570.01-M CSSP Infrastructure Support certification with Continuing Education (CE) - (CEH, CySA+, GICSP, SSCP, CHFI, CFR, Cloud+, CND)
  • Must have an active DoD Secret Security Clearance
  • Must be able to obtain an active DoD Top Secret Security Clearance
  • Desired Requirements :

  • Have experience with Linux system administration in a DoD environment
  • Have Security Information & Event Management (SIEM) experience
  • Have experience with the Elastic Stack (Elasticsearch, Logstash, Kibana) is highly desirable.
  • Have Server Management experience, including deployment, backups, snapshots
  • This position is expected to pay $90,000 - $115,000 annually; depending on experience, education, and any certifications that are directly related to the position.
