TITLE : ACADEMIC TUTOR
POSITION : CASUAL (6-8 HOURS PER WEEK)
COMPENSATION : $21.55 / HR
LOCATION : In-person. Middle School in Daly City (Thomas R. Pollicita)
TENTATIVE START DATE : October 1, 2025

ABOUT COLLEGE ACCESS PROGRAMS
The JCYC College Access Programs include TRIO - Educational Talent Search (ETS) & Upward Bound (UB) - and Cal-SOAP (SF Cal-SOAP). They are funded by the U.S. Department of Education and the California Student Aid Commission, respectively. The goal of these programs is to serve low-income school youth, ages 11 and older, who have the potential to be the first generation in their family to attend college. These programs support middle and high school students in graduating from high school, enrolling and completing college, and applying for federal and state aid. POSITION SUMMARY
Do you want to get paid and make a difference by tutoring middle school students in San Francisco or Daly City? Apply to tutor for JCYC! We are seeking part-time Tutors to work 6-8 hours a week, assisting middle school students with their homework during the 2025-2026 school year. Earn $21.55 an hour, gain valuable leadership and communication skills, meet interesting people, contribute to your community, and have fun by becoming a Tutor. We offer training, so there is no need to understand all subjects before you start.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES :
Responsibilities include but are not limited to :
Tutor middle school students at a school site in small and / or large groups with an estimated ratio of 5 to 10 students per 1 Tutor;
Assist the Middle School Educational Advisor in managing a small caseload of students by tracking their academic progress throughout the school year;
Assist Middle School Educational Advisor with paperwork and event planning activities, such as local / long-distance college campus field trips during the school day.
Assist the Middle School Educational Advisor with workshops, educational activities / programming, and academic assistance.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
Education : Current High School student (11th / 12th grade) OR currently enrolled to obtain an AA degree or Bachelor's degree. Minors must receive a work permit signed by their school.
Must be authorized to work in the United States.
Available to work 3 days a week, Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday, from 3 : 00PM- 5 : 30PM (flexible and based on hiring site). Must also be available for quarterly Friday evening paid workshops / training.
Must be willing to provide TB Testing results and Background Check upon hire. Any out-of-pocket expenses incurred during the requested onboarding will be covered / reimbursed.
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
Demonstrate constructive communication skills (oral & written).
Effectively exercise compassion and positive behavior management skills.
Demonstrate professionalism and teamwork skills; Highly reliable.
Some experience working with youth similar to the program's target population (e.g., low-income, first-generation college-bound, ethnically diverse).
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
Compensation for this position is $21.55 / HR. JCYC offers :
Sick pay. No benefits and vacation accrual.
30 minute lunch break if working more than 5 hours in a day.
