Police Officer

The City of Racine Police Department is seeking candidates for the position of Police Officer. This is a full-time position with a salary range of $76,710.40 to $84,240.00 annually. The position is located in Racine, WI.

Job Description

The Racine Police Department offers a comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, pension program, HSA, and generous time off. City residents will earn a 3% differential on top of the hourly pay range. The department serves the City of Racine, a community of 77,816 people, and is committed to Community Orientated Policing. The mission is to protect life and property, promote community partnerships, build trust, and serve with honor.

The position involves a wide variety of police and law enforcement activities that include an element of personal danger and exposure to adverse conditions. Duties are primarily service oriented and include dispensing information, arbitrating disputes, providing assistance through referrals, property protection, crime prevention and investigation, apprehending criminals, directing traffic, and other public safety services.

Essential Duties

Essential duties include :

  • Maintaining continuous preventative patrol in assigned areas.
  • Responding to calls for police service and resolving domestic disputes.
  • Maintaining the peace and security of the community.
  • Rendering miscellaneous police services.
  • Providing for the safe and convenient flow of traffic and pedestrians.
  • Conducting preliminary investigations of crimes.
  • Enforcing laws and ordinances within assigned areas.
  • Completing and submitting written reports.
  • Testifying in criminal and civil court proceedings.
  • Maintaining consistent and reliable attendance.

Qualifications

Qualifications include :

  • Employment as a full-time law enforcement officer within the United States.
  • Continuous employment for two years (excluding military service).
  • Citizenship of the United States and at least 21 years of age.
  • High School Diploma or GED and sixty (60) fully accredited college level credits.
  • High moral character and free of any felony, serious misdemeanor, or domestic abuse conviction.
  • Successful completion of the hiring process and the Wisconsin Physical Readiness Test.
  • Knowledge of laws and ordinances of the State of Wisconsin and the City of Racine.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, analyze situations, and work under stress.
  • Skill in operating a motor vehicle and firearms.
  • Physical demands include walking, lifting, and running.
  • Supplemental Information

    Lateral entry compensation and benefits include starting salary and vacation time consistent with years of experience. The field training program offers flexibility, and seniority rights begin upon the date of hire. Probationary period is 12 months.
