The International Institute of Southwest Missouri is seeking a dynamic and mission-driven English Program Coordinator to lead our English language programs for adult refugees and immigrants. This role combines direct classroom instruction with program management, volunteer and intern supervision, and community partnership coordination. The ideal candidate will be passionate about education, culturally responsive teaching, and empowering newcomers to achieve self-sufficiency through language learning.
This position is funded through September 30, 2026
Key Responsibilities
English Instruction & Curriculum Coordination (30%)
Provide direct English instruction to adult learners in a classroom setting.
Coordinate and implement morning and evening English classes.
Develop and adapt lesson plans and instructional materials.
Conduct pre- and post-tests as required by contracts and funders.
Recruit, train, and supervise volunteer tutors, ensuring ongoing support and compliance.
Maintain a supportive and culturally competent classroom environment.
Program Oversight & Community Navigation (30%)
Oversee all internal English programs, ensuring quality and compliance with grants and contracts.
Manage classroom scheduling and resource allocation.
Build and maintain partnerships with local universities and community English providers.
Support clients in navigating and enrolling in community-based English programs.
Track participation, outcomes, and program impact.
Supervision of Interns & Volunteers (30%)
Recruit, onboard, and supervise English education and childcare interns.
Coordinate volunteer tutors and classroom support staff.
Provide regular training and performance feedback to interns and volunteers.
Additional Responsibilities (10%)
Maintain and update English Program policies and procedures.
Serve as a liaison between leadership and program staff.
Participate in departmental and organizational meetings and events.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
Master's Degree in TESOL or related field preferred (Bachelor's Degree plus 1+ years relevant experience accepted).
Adult Education and Literacy (AEL) certification preferred.
Demonstrated experience teaching English to adults from diverse cultural backgrounds.
Skills & Abilities
Strong program management and supervisory skills.
Excellent communication, facilitation, and interpersonal abilities.
Experience recruiting, training, and supporting volunteers or interns.
Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

The International Institute of Southwest Missouri (IISMO) opened in Springfield in 2013 as a branch of the International Institute of St. Louis, expanding the organization's century-long mission of welcoming and supporting refugees and immigrants. Since its founding, IISMO has helped resettle more than 860 refugees in the Springfield area, providing critical services such as housing assistance, cultural orientation, English instruction, and employment support.
