About Nature Portfolio Nature Portfolio is a flagship portfolio of journals, products and services including Nature and the Nature-branded journals, dedicated to serving the scientific community. Nature Materials is a monthly multi-disciplinary journal publishing original research across all aspects of materials science and engineering.
The Role This is a permanent position within the Nature Portfolio. The successful candidate will primarily support Nature Materials and may collaborate with other Nature Portfolio journals as needed. Responsibilities and journal assignments may evolve over time in response to portfolio needs.
Responsibilities Handling original research papers and working closely with editor teams on all aspects of the editorial process, including manuscript selection and overseeing peer review.
Make well-reasoned editorial decisions on submitted manuscripts with expert advice.
Contribute to content and strategy in this area at Nature Materials and other Nature Portfolio journals as needed.
Commission, edit content such as Reviews, Perspectives, Comments or editorials.
Liaise with editors at other journals in the Nature family and with external experts.
Attend conferences and visit research institutions.
Qualifications A PhD, or equivalent qualification, in a topic related to materials science.
Additional research experience valuable but not required.
Strong understanding of recent trends and developments in the field.
Broad interest in scientific research beyond specialist area; excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including fluent English (written and spoken).
Ability to read and assess novelty, context and implications of research across areas of materials science.
Willingness to travel and engage with scientists worldwide; help others learn about Nature Portfolio and what we seek in papers.
Editorial experience is not required, but applicants with editorial experience are encouraged to apply and may be considered for Senior Editor positions.
