Job Specific Information : The wage range for this position is between $20.29 and $35.84 per hour. This position does not include benefits.

Summary Description : Under direction, is responsible for providing comprehensive developmental guidance and counseling services to students in the areas of academic achievement, career and educational decision-making, and personal / social development. Acts as a consultant to staff, parents, and the community regarding these services.

Physical Demands : As required by the duties and responsibilities of the job.

Special Requirements : Required to attend school meetings, programs, and activities outside the instructional day as mandated by the MCEA agreement.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities : Thorough knowledge of MCPS Policies and Procedures, the Comprehensive Guidance and Counseling Program, and the Program of Studies. Knowledge of growth and developmental stages of adolescents. Ability to read, take notes, and interpret written materials. Ability to work effectively as a team member and independently with staff, students, and parents. Proficiency in using a computer and other technological equipment, including online scheduling. Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to speak effectively to both large and small groups. Strong human relations skills to establish good relationships with diverse individuals and groups.

Education, Training, and Experience : Master's degree from an accredited college or university in school guidance and counseling. Experience as a teacher and / or counselor is preferred. Certificate / License : Meets Maryland state certification requirements for school guidance and counseling.
