Lula, a fast-growing Proptech startup in the Kansas City area, is seeking a Head of Design (Player-Coach) to lead and expand our design function. This unique position combines strategic leadership with active, hands-on product design. The ideal candidate will shape product vision, mentor and develop design team members, and directly contribute to the design and launch of innovative solutions within a dynamic, high-growth startup environment.

Define and drive Lula’s overall design vision, strategy, and standards in close partnership with Product, Engineering, Marketing, and company leadership.

Lead and mentor a small, but ambitious design team, promoting a culture of excellence, inclusivity, and growth.

Collaborate directly with cross-functional teams to conceptualize, iterate, and ship high-quality designs for web and mobile platforms.

Balance leadership and individual contribution , spending significant time on hands-on product design tasks such as prototyping, wireframing, and UX / UI creation.

Champion user-centered design across Lula’s products while refining processes, design systems, and best practices.

Influence product roadmap and business strategy as the voice of design, representing user needs and brand values.

Set up design workflow rhythms, tools, and documentation to support both personal contribution and team scaling.

6+ years of product or UX design experience, including 2+ years in a design leadership or management role.

~ Demonstrated success delivering end-to-end design for web and mobile products in a fast-paced startup setting.

~ Proven ability to balance team leadership with hands-on design contributions.

~ Expertise in modern design and prototyping tools (e.g., Figma, Sketch, or Adobe Creative Suite).

~ Strong portfolio highlighting impactful, shipped product design work.

~ Excellent communicator and collaborator across design, product, engineering, and stakeholders.
