Salary : $48,000-$55,000 / year
Responsible for the effective and efficient daily operation of the SPCA Cincinnati Sharonville Humane Center, ensuring that all animals are properly cared for and humanely and safely handled.
Animal Care :
Supervise the shelter staff
Provide for proper animal care and sanitation by being attentive to each animals behavior, health, and living conditions.
Work closely with the medical staff to ensure the best veterinary treatments and care.
Ensure that the animals are being treated and medicated properly, immunized upon arrival, and be constantly aware of the animals condition.
Temperament test and evaluate all incoming dogs with assistance from medical staff
Meet regularly with the VP of Operations to ensure the well-being and humane treatment of animals and the proper management of operations and facilities.
Ensure that cleaning and sanitation of kennels, cages, and equipment is completed on an on-going basis
Be responsible for approval of all adoptions
Manage along with medical staff euthanasia as required and in accordance with all laws regulating the use of drugs and equipment
Shelter Operations and Supervision :
Be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the shelter with regard to the animals and their care
Ensure that the cleaning and sanitation of the shelter facility is completed on an on-going basis
Greet and assist clients in the absence of other staff
Be responsible for the proper training and guidance of the shelter staff and volunteers
Be responsible for seeing that staff is familiar with the Policies and Procedures Manual, and that staff follows it
Assist with staff development through :
o Planned, recorded, staff meetings
o Informal meetings
Be responsible for scheduling of shelter staff / technicians, ensuring proper coverage to complete needed tasks while minimizing overtime
Assure that staff keeps accurate animal inventory and animal medical records
Be responsible for performance reviews of shelter staff
Establish a close working relationship with the VO of Operations in order to communicate :
o Operational needs
o Personnel issues
o Facility and equipment needs
o Issues associated with the effective operation of the shelter, always advise the VP of Operations of newsworthy situations or happenings either complimentary to or detrimental to the Society or to the animals
Project shelter staffing requirements
Assist medical staff with effective inventory control and ordering needed drugs and supplies in a timely and cost effective manner
Interview and hire shelter staff
Shelter Maintenance :
Communicate facility and equipment problems and needs to the VP of Operations and assist in planning appropriate action
Education Requirements :
BA and / or work equivalent in animal husbandry
