DESCRIPTION

Department Overview The Office of Operational Strategic Initiatives (OSI) was established as an outcome of the campus-wide strategic planning process to deliver university-wide impact. The department implements strategic initiatives and programs that directly impact all Vice Chancellor areas, including defining and implementing business process / continuous improvement projects, conducting organizational reviews and identifying opportunities for improvement, providing ad hoc support to strategic initiatives, leading university-wide operational excellence efforts, managing Chancellor initiatives and programs, and consulting on a wide range of topics.OSI identifies, leads, and supports campus opportunities to improve administrative processes and enhance the University's people and service-oriented culture. The office is focused on continuous improvement and operational excellence across all UC San Diego operations. By acting as an agile, strategic, and objective collaborator across all UC San Diego departments and Vice Chancellor areas, OSI is able to :

• Align campus resources with UC San Diego's Mission and Strategic Plan,
• Optimize processes,
• Improve financial effectiveness and efficiency,
• Enhance customer service, and
• Foster innovation and growth.

OSI is also a key resource across the UC system, leading initiatives and consulting at other UC campuses and the UC Office of the President.Additionally, the incumbent is responsible for broader engagement in campus business development initiatives that derive from our ever evolving and expanding entrepreneurial corporate, public and community activities. As such, the department is involved in different types of financial and business relationships across campus academic and administrative areas, in conjunction with business / industry leaders through collaborations that advance UC San Diego's mission.

Position OverviewThe AI Engagement Director (Organizational Consultant 4) will lead efforts to accelerate awareness, engagement, and adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) tools and technologies across UC San Diego. This is a two-year contract position. The incumbent will be responsible for developing and executing a comprehensive engagement strategy to ensure that AI tools such as TritonGPT, NotebookLM, and other enterprise-supported platforms are widely understood and used across academic and administrative units.This role will serve as the primary ambassador for AI engagement, building relationships across campus Vice Chancellor areas, engaging directly with academic and administrative units, and working with stakeholders to raise awareness, train users, and drive measurable adoption outcomes for students, staff, and faculty across UC San Diego. The position requires strong organizational skills, self-motivation, and the ability to adapt quickly in a dynamic and evolving technology landscape.

Key responsibilities include :

The analysis, recommendations, and program management performed will be highly complex, requiring broad expertise in organizational change management, adoption strategy, program facilitation, and AI technologies. The successful candidate will play a critical role in shaping the university's digital future through widespread and effective use of AI.

QUALIFICATIONS

Advanced knowledge of organizational development and effectiveness, including models and methods to drive large-scale adoption and cultural change.

Strong project management experience, including planning, implementation, and measurement.

Demonstrated expertise in consulting, facilitation, and relationship building across diverse stakeholder groups.

Experience designing and delivering training content, workshops, and adoption campaigns

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to define and measure adoption outcomes.

Proven ability to influence and coach individuals and groups at all levels.

Strong written, verbal, and presentation communication skills.

Ability to work independently and proactively in a fast-moving environment.

Passion for and knowledge of AI technologies, with the ability to translate technical concepts for diverse audiences.

PREFERED QUALIFICATIONS

Experience in marketing, communications, and event management preferred.

Lean Six Sigma Black Belt preferred.

Project Management Education or Certification preferred.

Change Management Education or Certification preferred.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range : $108,100 - $204,900 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent : $51.77 - $98.13

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
